offsite link Why?s it so Hard to Get Electricity in a New Home? Mon Aug 05, 2024 07:00 | Ben Pile
When Ben Pile moved into a new house he got a nasty surprise. It had a prepayment meter that was about to run out of credit. Fixing this proved to be absurdly hard, which, presumably, is just what the green lobby wants.

Irish readers might be missing a story whose soap-opera plotting and extraordinary comments are delighting the enemies of Berlusconi. The man who managed to bring the Vatican behind his new right wing alliance has just fallen foul of the RC newspaper who have published on their front page a stinging attack on the morality and behaviour of Silvio who only this weekend was accused of "cavorting with minors" by his estranged wife for attending an 18 year old birthday party depite never making it to his own childrens' 18th festivities.

Preaching from the pulpit they have called on Italian voters to express their unease at the urns.

Please switch off the voice recorder. I will tell you about the arrest and interrogation. It’s not for my safety, but for yours. I am afraid that they will search you when you will be leaving the country.

A woman in her late 20-ies opens the door to the hotel Firouzeh in central Tehran. She is dressed in blue jeans and a purple hijab covering her faultless shape. Headscarf which is supposed to cover her hair is struggling to stay somewhere on the back of her head.

Delicate smile on her cheerful face is assisting a firm handshake. It’s Maryam, an activist of the One Million Signatures Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws towards women. “Marek jaan (dear), welcome to Iran!” read full story / add a comment

We bring you more good news! The European Union have just announced that they are to ban the trade in seal products into Europe. This good news comes amid fierce opposition from the Canadian government whom have been sending countless delegations to Europe in order to lobby Ministers and MEP’s. Their campaign has been built on lies and bullying tactics. Today’s news will now mean that once the legislation comes into force, it will be illegal to sell or trade in seal products from countries such as Canada where the cruel commercial seal hunt takes place—thus cutting off a major market for seal skins read full story / add a comment

At the beginning of April, the G20 group of major world economies met in London. Media attention focused as much on the confrontation between police and demonstrators outside the conference as on what was going on between the suits inside. The London police were their usual charmless selves and even managed to kill an uninvolved man, Ian Tomlinson, on his way home from work. read full story / add a comment

On 16th May, a day of action has been called by the European Trade Union Congress under the banner ‘Fight The Crisis. Put People First.’

Grassroots Unite are calling on everyone - trade unionist or not, public AND private sector workers and the unemployed to get out on the streets and protest against the bailout of the banks, socially unjust taxes, pension and income levies, cuts in jobs, pay, hours, pension benefits, medical services, education and social welfare.

Let’s unite with workers across Europe and use the opportunity to begin to build a fightback in Ireland. Assemble at the Central Bank, Dame St., Dublin - 2.30pm on May 16th. read full story / add a comment

This is a Call Out from the united community of Erris Co Mayo to all our national and international supporters, asking you to come to Glengad this coming Saturday 9th May at 6pm in the evening, on a Day of Action to help us remove Shell's illegal fences from the area.

As you know, Shell returned to Glengad with fences and machinery on Wednesday 22nd April, with force and violence. Since then there have been a number of attempts at removing the fences and stopping the work, with a mixture of failure and success.

As you can see from the photos and footage below, the will is clearly there to fight Shell, in spite of the fact that large numbers of Shell security and Gardai have been drafted into the area. But what is also clear is that numbers are needed to achieve success. Numbers, People, Bodies. That means you. Please come.
