The Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, is currently conducting two separate public consultations, allegedly to protect Tara. There is the proposed Tara Skryne Landscape Conservation Area and the proposed Tara UNESCO World Heritage Site. But the Minister has not produced one single map showing the proposed areas, and has refused to answer Parliamentary Questions on the issue. read full story / add a comment

Hands off the People of Iran will be taking part in the Global Day of Action on Iran to be held on Saturday 25th July. However HOPI is against any intervention by the United States or other governments. Real solidarity can only come from the working class, from those who stand with the Iranian people in their common struggle.

The site of the former Hotel Gerhus in the village of Fassberg in the German state of Lower Saxony is now squatted by a neoNazi group loyal to the far-right German NPD deputy leader Jürgen Rieger. Although the building is in receivership, and despite the little village never reportedly having had the pleasure of a squat or social centre before, the 8000 metre squared piece of real estate is now breaking news in the German language. A mostly ignored press statement issued by Rieger last Friday announced his activists would occupy the premises after a leasing deal went sour (for the nazi's) & they felt they were being ripped off by someone in the estate agents' sector for offering them the space. Accordingly in the last 24 hours German NeoNazi's have indeed occupied the site - with the intention of turning the 70+ plus bedroomed building into a "training, educational & political revival" centre. read full story / add a comment

This is an obsure but alarming article. I had to read it twice to figure what it was saying: that it is a crime to advocate boycotting Israeli products in France. A man has been fined €1000 for organising a boycott of Israeli products; and the French appeals court and Council of Europe's European Court of Human Rights upheld this. read full story / add a comment

"Ironically, the only time in Venezuela that a TV channel was taken off air, constitutional rights suspended, and journalists arrested and assaulted since Chavez’s 1998 election was during the two days when he was removed from power in a short-lived coup in April 2002."

"While it “condemns” some of the attacks on freedom of speech, it has little to say about the coup regime itself.

This is because, for the IAPA, there was no coup.

Its July 14 statement said the democratically elected Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was simply “stood down” — not kidnapped and dumped in a different country by balaclava-clad soldiers." read full story / add a comment

People often ask Vegans- why is a vegetarian diet not sufficient if one wants to eliminate food that causes suffering to animals from their diet? Years ago Vegetarianism was a new concept but now it is mainstream. We have now progressed to a new level with Veganism as people embrace the concept in increasing numbers. The vast range of Soya and plant based products in Irish supermarkets accommodating diets free of animal products is increasing rapidly.
