When a man in Dublin stabs a police officer while shouting "Allahu Akbar" you can be pretty sure it's not the work of an indigenous Irishman. So why are the media at pains to pretend it is, asks Andrew Devine.

British TV grows more and more unwatchable with each passing day. That might be because BAFTA is on a mission to transform every TV show into climate propaganda ? and it's just stepped up a gear, says Steven Tucker.

Shot, firebombed and imprisoned by the Quisling PA, Prof. Abdel Sattar Qassem speaks out

category galway | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday February 18, 2010 16:47author by TD - Free Palestine Campaign Report this post to the editors

Lodestar

Sorry to report that the PA through its Israeli, US and Jordanian trained Quisling thugs has now reduced armed struggle to an occasional tokenistic spasm in the West Bank and even nonviolent resistance, in the case of Bil'in, a mockery: PA placemen on the Popular Committee now only permit eunuchized, grand old Duke of York type Friday traipses to the nearby Apartheid-Annexation Wall with anything stronger planned such as a protest against Mubarak's Wall of Shame between Gaza and Egypt nipped in the bud, as it were.
Prof. Abdel Sattar Qassem

However, as this five part video interview hopefully attests, one lodestar shines brilliantly to guide Palestinians home ... and his name is Prof. Abdel Sattar Qassem.?

In his latest column for the New Statesman, John Pilger asks: Why are so many films so bad? This year’s Oscar nominations are a parade of propaganda, stereotypes and downright dishonesty. The dominant theme is as old as Hollywood: America’s divine right to invade other societies, steal their history and occupy our memory. When will directors and writers behave like artists and not pimps for a world view devoted to control and destruction? ... Non-American (or non-western) humanity is not deemed to have box office appeal, dead or alive. They are the “other” who are allowed, at best, to be saved by “us”. In Avatar, James Cameron’s vast and violent money-printer, 3-D noble savages known as the Na’vi need a good guy American soldier, Sergeant Jake Sully, to save them. This confirms they are “good”. Natch.

Yet, the villagers of Bil'in "reenacted" Avatar at their last protest, why ? why? why?

To answer my own question, besides Pilger, Edward's Said's magnificent book; Orientalism also points the way where he argues cogently : that Orientalist scholarship was and continues to be inextricably tied to the imperialist societies that produced it, making much of the work inherently politicized, servile to power, and therefore suspect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Said

Now, sadly, we have the people of Bil'in brainwashed with the ideology and values of their US and Israeli imperial masters aping and pimping this world view which is devoted to their control and destruction. Jesus wept!

It's interesting what you say about Palestinian Authority control of the Popular Committee in Bilin as it collaborates - if that's the right word in the present context - the story of an activist friend of mine in the West Bank who journeyed to Tulkarem on the 30th of December last to participate in a solidarity march for Gaza but which was suppressed by the PA mayor of that city without demur from the Tulkarem Popular Committee.

Essentially we are talking about a Vichy style regime whose ‘policies’ are guided by Washington and Tel Aviv, but then what have any of the Arab regimes ever done to assist the Palestinian people? Mubarak is building a wall; Abdullah is (like his father and grandfather) working closely with the Zionists and Washington. The UAE are concentrating on making money and many of them have provided secret prisons for ‘extraordinary rendition’.
