Jump To Comment: 1What an amazingly narrow-minded editorial. Every commercial venture to be stopped? I think not, just those that seek to exploit people over profits. Many people would have a problem with SHELL as an entity after seeing its behaviour in environmental affairs (most notably the hanging of Mr Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others ten years ago) but not the Rossport 5. Their problem, as far as I can make out, is not with SHELL per se but with the proposal for the pipeline in Corrib - no matter who was going to build it. The problem is that a dangerous pipe is planned to be placed over land that people live on, not the company that is going to place it there. These people would be as unhappy if their next door neighbours were going to put the pipe there.
Will every capitalist venture be resisted in the future? Only in the interests of justice.
Mark Conroy.
