You can ONLY drink BUD at the Bud Rising Festival in Dublin

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday June 02, 2005 02:02author by Bud decending - Campaign for tasty beer, the way it used to be, the way it should beauthor email guinness at japaneseplace dot jp Report this post to the editors

Is Bud such a crap beer that they have resorted to forcing people to drink it?

i bought a ticket to see a band in The Village this evening. But when I went to the bar I discovered red socks over all the taps for the draught beer.

Red Budwiser socks! covering the Erdinger and other beers!!

All the fridges were full of Budwizer bottles. And then the true nature of the nightmare became apparent.

YOU CAN ONLY DRINK BUD AT THE CONCERTS AT THIS BUD FESTIVAL!!!

But nowhere on all the printed material about this festival does it warn innocent punters out for a good night that this is the case.

There were other people standing at the bar with jaws a droppin' - wondering what the hell they could do.

Is Bud so bad that they have to force us to drink it by making nothing else available???

And in forcing people to drink their beer are they admitting something about it?

It was a corporate takeover at the bar without any warning!

Are corporate take overs and coercion cool and rock and roll now??
So I went down to the cash desk and complained and got my money back and left.

I went up to Redmonds in Ranelagh and got some really tasty beers and the guy behind the desk confirmed that Bud are in real trouble and the beer just isnt selling. Its even being outsold by Corrs Light - how bad is that?

The Cork Capital of Culture Programme for one. See: http://www.cork2005.ie/programme/default.asp?id=637&p=365

Here we have The Heineken CCCP Bank Holiday Weekend.

I wonder if they had used a Swastika and a Slogan "Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Pint" would people stand for it?

CCCP? Maybe I am missing something, but there were parts of the Europe that were enslaved by the red star ....

I'd prefer one pint of decent beer than 2 or 3 pints of tasteless, too cold, chemical Bud or Heinekin shite

Am I middle class or do I just like things to taste the way they should - before the multinationals changed the recipe?

author by Barrypublication date Fri Jun 03, 2005 00:06author address author phone Report this post to the editors

They are bloody lovely , no chemicals and proper damn beer . I know theres plenty of posers who drink them but so what ?
Is supposed good taste the sole preserve of the middle class ?

I know when I have the choice and the few extra quid Id pick proper beer over piss water any day . And budweiser is bloody awful along with most of the rest of the fizzy dishwater that gets served up .

Once you start drinking the Whitebeer you notice the total difference in the quality . And its a huge difference . The sooner someone starts brewing it here at maybe a more reasonable price the better .

cheaper than most beer in most pubs in Dublin, and its all Irish and no chemicals or pasturisation

That was a pretty funny story, in the telling, an' all. But contrary to some, it has a serious side. The personal is political, and our direct experience of the world _is_ what counts. A social event has been bought over by a corporation to promote a brand. Whatever happened to market freedom? Already the range of beers available in most pubs is restricted to chemically produced anodine swill. The locally produced tastey beers are edged out. Consumer choice? I don't think so. But here, in the Bud story, we have a dystopia of corporate unchoice, a high point of uniformity. The "consumer" finally emerges complete as a droid of the empire, a slave to the ultimate stimulated demand. No say, no choice, no fun, except in this case, as our esteemed correspondent nobly demonstrated to back out and say no to the whole cat and caboodle. At this rate of going they'll be charging us for water.

"But nowhere on all the printed material about this festival does it warn innocent punters out for a good night that this is the case."

It is a Budweiser festival!!! It is called BUD RISING!!

"There were other people standing at the bar with jaws a droppin' - wondering what the hell they could do."

Emmm.. Don't drink it perhaps??

"Is Bud so bad that they have to force us to drink it by making nothing else available???"

Are you really that weak minded that you will drink swill if nothing else is available?? What if they only had Meths?? or petrol?? would your tiny brain and lack of any self discipline force you to drink that too??

"And in forcing people to drink their beer are they admitting something about it?"

Did they hold you down and force you to drink it?? or did you slavishly hand over your cash?

"It was a corporate takeover at the bar without any warning!"

Since when have bars not been owned by large corporations?? most are owned by capital bars and work very closely with all the major drink corporations...

well the cherry on the cake today was when I looked at theonion.com site and found that Bud now have Budlight!! For a while I thought "NO, Bud lite, it has to be a joke along with the Special Olympics Investigated For Use Of Performance-Enhancing Hugs?"

But no, it was true.

Yes they have made their very bland beer even more bland!!

Perhaps they mean bottled water and just call it Bud lite so they can use those nice horsies in the ads?

Most people buy Bud cus of the nice horsies and some people even think the nice horsies made the Bud, naturally.

In response to the post above this one....

Do you work for BUD? or own shares? Baaahahahaha?

When one goes out for entertainment and to catch a live gig one does assume that there is a choice of drinks and not just one drink while all the others have red socks over the taps or whole walls of fridges have been emptied and then filled with bottles of Bud.

"The bar as billboard" by Bud "Taking over a bar near you"

Dear Bud, please "dont ruin a good evening" by taking over my bar and reducing my choice to zero....

Im a cool rock and roll rebel and I drink Bud cus its always the only thing on offer at rock concerts, Yeah! It must be cool right? Rock on!

I went to the Blues Festival for many years in Temple Bar during the 90s sponsored by "the Diagio japanese stout brand" and they never shut off all the other drinks from punters. There was also a FESTIVE atmosphere since there were 20 pubs with live international bands and all of it was free but for a few big gigs. So BUD is getting very heavy in shutting down all drinks at its so called festival gigs - it doesnt make me feel very festive when they leave me with one option.

And I repeat that there was no warning, I never saw "you will not be able to have any other drink but BUD at these concerts"

They should give the cats piss away for free if they want people to drink it or try it but at least give people a choice not to

Its a glimpse of the homogenic future the corporations have planned for us surfs.

I felt tricked when I arrived at the bar and then pissed of at the slyness of getting people in without one word of warning and unlike a sheep I said screw that trick and protested by getting a refund and starting this topic.
