Problems in store for Bertie, the great decentralizar We are going to remain the most technologicaly backwords country in Europe. The Irony just keeps on getting better, from that class act, ‘The Soldiers of Destiny Show’,premiered in Leinster House, and soon to be distributed nationwide. |

If you're looking for someone to blame:
Public Sector numbers should be reduced by 15,000.

IBEC says
"an increased target reduction of 15,000 (from 5000 set by the govt.) should be achieved over three years through non-replacement, voluntary retirement and REDEPLOYMENT.
The fact still remains that we don't want to go and we will refuse to be relocated to facilitate the FF/PD election campaign. You must understand that this decision to move our jobs was not taken in consultation with us - and you can surely understand why we resent it. If there are no jobs in economically depressed and marginalised areas in the country - where are our spouses going to work? If there are no multidenominational schools - where are our children going to go to school? I have a job, as does my spouse and a multi-D on my doorstep in Dublin (YOUR capital MY home) - why should I move?
It is refreshing to read such a vocal defence of the policies of the FF/PD government on this web site - I thought you were a bunch of young radicals. I hope Junior Minister Parlon is reading this - he will be very proud of you indeed.
Britain announced it's Budget this week.
It includes plans to relocate the civil service from London.
To shed jobs and save money.
Government is prepared to sack civil servants

The Irish plans for decentralisation were also announced on Budget day.
An attempt to shed jobs and save money ?
No clogging the streets (financial arteries) of Dublin if jobs get cut in Castlebar.
But hey,
at least you'll be able to sign the online petition !
Well done Elle, your attitude is exactly what I was talking about - trappings of civilization - what a laugh! and all our 'get up and go has got up and left' has it? why not tell us to 'get on your bike' while you're at it - you seem to have a lot in common with norman tebbitt. Once again, well done, i couldn't have come up with a finer example of Dublin Chauvanism, bertie would be proud of you.
Maybe we should build a wall around it and preserve it for future generations to come and wonder at its magnificence, a shining example of 'civilisation'!
Why not force the civil service out of Dublin???? Why should we be forced to live in places where even the "natives" don't want to live. Dublin may seem to you a hell hole but for most of us living here it is home, its where we were born, where we want to bring up our children....and why should we be forced to leave our home to prop up counties that are ailing economically. The simple fact is that most of us won't go because we don't want to and we can't be forced to. I don't think that this will succeed - not when one considers that opposition is running at 90% or more in many offices and departments. And when it doesn't go ahead it won't be the first promise broken by this government. I am sorry that for country people their get up and go has got up and went but perhaps you should look to yourselves and ask why we don't want to live in your towns and villages. Thanks for the offer of a forced exile away from my home....but most of us will be staying in Dublin and spending our money in our own communities.
Let's face it - why would someone want to give up living in Dublin for life in somewhere like Offally....I can see what I have to offer the countryside but what has it got to offer me?? And please don't make the arguments that An Taoiseach makes about cheap houses - I already own a house in Dublin (thanks!).
Why would I want to live somewhere that doesn't have a multi-denominational school, that doesn't have a theatre, a cinema, a working rail line, a bookshop, a Museum, an art Gallery or any of the trappings of civilisation? Civil and public servants are not going to be forced by this government to live in wholly unsuitable towns and villages just so that FF and the PDs can cash in at the next elections - and you shouldn't expect us to either!
Fair enough, but i don't think that dublin based people have the first clue about how disenfranchised we are in the west. Decentralisation of some government offices is a good thing, its just been given such a bad name in this current governments blatant vote-grab. Bertie doesn't give a fuck where any departments go as long as it doesnt affect dubin central . But dublin is now a hell hole to try and live in while at the same time some parts of ireland are dying on their feet for want of jobs, so why not force the civil service out into areas where their presence and salaries might contribute to rural redevelopment.
Most dubs seem to think that the rest of us are just rich farmers and b&b owners, still under the boot of the church and fianna fail. well its time to catch yourselves on up there, and stop patronising the rest of us.
Calm down Disprin. I think the chauvanistic Jackeen was just implying that Dublin has more resources to cater for this lark and if it cant be done there it'll hardly be feasible down in the under-resourced countryside. Under-resourced becasue of the soldiers of destiny who seem to want the country (not Dublin or surrounding areas) depopulated.
I was with you right up to the end there McDermott. Then you say 'If it wont work in Dublin it sure wont work in Castlebar' Well fuck you you chauvanistic Urbanocentric jackeen wanker. I hope you enjoy living in your urban kip and that you stay there and let the rest of us get on with life in rural ireland. Have you ever even been in Castlebar? or anywhere else outside of your own shithole?
