In the wake of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences Bill) 2006; as amended in 2007, two expert committees were set up to look at :- The issue of consent , to which interest groups were invited to make submission; and in the wake of that a committee was set up under the chairmanship of Mary O Rourke (Senator) to look at amending the Constitution. Latest news on the issue of Protection is that the State may postpone the Referendum now until 2009, because they do not (nor do the opposition) want the two Referenda to coincide and create confusion for the voter. This past Saturday, a van load of pilgrims en route to the Festival of St Brigid in Kildare were stopped by the Irish Special Branch. We were questioned under Section 31 of the Offences Against the State Act and a detective accused me of being a terrorist. The Dutch government is bracing itself for violent protests following the scheduled broadcast this week of a provocative anti-Muslim film by a radical right-wing politician who has threatened to broadcast images of the Koran being torn up and otherwise desecrated. Geert Wilders , one of nine members of the extreme right wing PVV party in the Dutch parliament , has described the Koran as a 'source of inspiration for intolerance, murder and terror'. Demonstrations from left wing and Muslim opponents of Wilders’ provocation are expected this week , while members of the Stop Islamisation of Europe group are planning to travel to Amsterdam in his support . read full story / add a comment
