President OF THE IRISH REPUBLIC TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND IRISHLADS AND IRISHLADIES: In the name of O’Brien, Martin-Murphy, Esat Digifone, the Dublin United Tramways Company, and of the dead executionerins who met with unhappy accidents on their way to midday Mass, from whom she receives her old tradition of being neither this nor that. Having patiently perfected her zeal, having waited, resolutely as a cat bound and gagged all night in the outhouse, for the right moment to reveal herself on Facebook, she now seizes this moment, with her one good typing hand, supported by all her children who thankfully went away and quietly died in flats above chip shops at Cricklewood, and by gallant allies first in London, and now, Berlin, but relying in the first instance on her own weakness, she strikes in full confidence of her ongoing defeat. read full story / add a comment

The WSM have written a timely article covering the recent sickening spectacle of the mainstream media expressing their moral outrage at a recent protest against the President after he signed into law another batch of laws to serve corporate interests and steal away the resources which belong to the Irish people, but they did not express any moral outrage over any of the austerity measures of the past 7 years which has resulted in people losing their homes, going without, committing suicide, dying for lack of proper care and treatments and waiting lists and the general misery inflicted upon the population. No, it is simply an opportunity to viciously attack and condemn anyone who dares challenge the ideology that everything must be sold off and run for profit and screw peoples needs and lives. read full story / add a comment

The Progressive Film Club Presents: 3 p.m. In a Different Place 3:15 p.m. Presi per il PIL ▶New Theatre (43 East Essex Street) A very interesting documentary, beautifully filmed, about “degrowth,” sustainability and self-sufficiency in response to consumerism and the recession. It features case studies of people from various parts of Italy who have forsaken the commercial life in cities to live in rural communities and also also looks at examples of city-dwellers trying to achieve more sustainable life-styles. The film accompanies them in their new daily lives, while interviews with experts such as economists help make sense of the decisions that have been made. ■ Directed by Stefano Cavallotto, Andrea Bertaglio, and Lorenzo Fioramonti. In Italian with English subtitles. Running times: 65 minutes. ■ Watch the trailer: www.presiperilpil.org read full story / add a comment
