Labour is "mission-driven", says Keir Starmer. But the last thing anyone should want is a Government with a mission, says David McGrogan. That's because a Government with a mission needs conscripts. That's you and me.

All are agreed, something amazing is happening right here and right now on this beautiful little planet. And, by Christ do we need it!!! A week ago, even in Spain, there wasn’t too much awareness of what was going on with the M-15 movement, but now, only days later and it appears that a bomb has gone off. Last look on the digital map of places participating in the #SPANISHREVOLUTION gave a count of 650 (yes that’s right SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY) places around the planet expressing solidarity with what’s going on here in Spain, or being inspired to bring the revolution to their part of the world. read full story / add a comment

It has been weird being in Dublin security city the past week. It reminds me a lot of
growing up in the police state of Queensland/Australia in the late '70's.

On Thursday, I was stopped and searched by police five times before noon and shaken down by the Special Branch 3 times over the two daze. My poster (photo of Giusepe Conlon...with the words "Remember Giuseppe Conlon and All Victims of Empire") remains in police custody,
confiscated by an Inspector under State Security legislation.

The armed power of the Irish state and the local establishment extended a heavily stage-managed and trumped-up 'welcome' for the reigning British monarch, while denying Cork citizens freedom of movement in their own city. Once again An Garda Síochána infringed upon people's freedom of protest. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday morning, I had the poster that appears in this clip of Giuseppe Conlon with the wording
"Remember Giuseppe Conlon and all Victims of Empire" confiscated by a Gardai inspector under some state security legislation.

I had been phoned by the Gardai about 11 pm the night before saying a friend of mine was in custody chargeed woth a pUblic Order offense and needed a lawyer and that he wouldbe appearing at the new court on Infimary Rd. I had been unable to get back to where I was staying as the city was closed down and had crashed on another friend's floor.

As I made my way to the court Thursday morning, a young Gard said she would not let me through her checkpoint with the sign. I asked if she could hang on to it and I would be back in 4o mins. She agreed.

After realsing I could not cross the road I returned to that checkpoint and the sign was gone. She pointed out the inspector that had seized the sign. I approached him and I said if read full story / add a comment

In response to Shell's AGM today in The Hague and London, the Shell to Sea campaign have shut down the Belmullet Shell office in protest against the on-going controversial Corrib Gas project which has no local consent or benefit to the people of Ireland. Shell will attempt to begin construction on the high pressure raw gas pipeline shortly despite a legal challenge by An Taisce and two local residents.

This protest is also to highlight the fact that every hour Shell accumulates another £1.6 million pounds sterling ( 1.83 million Euro) by destroying communities across the globe, from the Niger Delta to the Canadian Tar Sands. Shell's appalling record of human rights abuses, oil spills, gas flaring and accidents forces people to protect their communities and their environment.

We call on all shareholders to disinvest.

This Sunday, the international celebration of the working class was marked in Cork with the now-traditional May Day march organised by the Independent Workers Union. Cork WSM also marked the occasion by hosting a pair of talks after the march on May Day-related topics at Solidarity Books on Douglas Street. As a finale to the day's festivities, a fundraising cabaret was held for the union and the bookshop that night at the Spailpín Fánach on South Main Street.
