No to UN Military Intervention in Lybia

opinion/analysis
Monday February 28, 2011 22:09 by APIC (APICONG) - Afro-Asian People's Democratic Islamic Congress

Against the background of an increasing probability of a military intervention on the part of the United States of America and, which is the more probable scenario, the United Nations, in Lybia, we wish to state in clear terms our rejection of any US, European or UN invasion. Any such step will inevitably lead to an escalation of violence and to the emergence of an unsurveyable situation, possessing all characteristics of present-day Iraq.
The United Nations are a political instrument that cannot be separated from the imperial powers and their neo-colonial endeavours in Africa and the Middle East. As such, they are a grave threat to national sovereignty and independence, which must be opposed.
War crimes and crimes against humanity have been committed by members of the UN peace corps on Middle Eastern, as well as on African soil. The United Nations are not a neutral power. Their presence in any country in which an intervention is undertaken is designed to be indefinite, for with the United Nations comes the presence of the West's imperial powers and their stranglehold on the economy, natural resources and infrastructure of the nation. With that comes the distribution of the nation's assets among the combines and multinationals that make up the political executive of these powers. War, to them, is the ultimate way out of the crisis.
Brothers and sister, Gama'a,
Let our policies be consistent. If we want revolution, then we must be ready to pay the price for it.
It is either us who will suffer now or all succeeding generations.
No Arab patriot will call for a UN military intervention, for any such intervention would be the stab in the back of the Arab Revolution. It would strengthen Ghaddafi's position in so far as a foreign invasion would de-facto "legitimise" him. In this lies the grave danger of treason being turned into a "patriotic deed" and the nation being split and fractured within. In this lies the danger of this very nation falling apart.
Any western military presence in the guise of "peacekeeping" would perpetuate the imperialist powers' control of the Middle East's and Africa's economy, natural resources and political agenda. It would ultimately strengthen the position of the military regime in Egypt and put an end to our peoples' aspirations for revolution and national rebirth.
It is for this reason that we, in full awareness of the gravity of the situation in Lybia, must raise our voice to warn of the dangers of such a development, of the dangers of looking to the West for a solution and of calling on the West for intervention.
We are calling on the Revolutionary Youth of Lybia to intensify their resistance and accelerate the struggle for liberation of the people by the people, as a timely and comprehensive solution of the present conflict is the only way to prevent neo-colonial penetration and the resurgence of the imperial conquest of Africa and the Middle East.
We wish to maintain peaceful and beneficial relations with all nations and peoples in the world. But the precondition of such mutually fruitful relations is non-interference and respect for national sovereignty.
We cannot sacrifice our interests in order to satisfy those of others.
For unity and independence! For peace and solidarity among the peoples! Long live the Arab Revolution!
