October Meeting of Cooley Environmental Health Group (CEHG)

We are planning our 2010 workshop on "Back to Basics - A plan for Survival" to be held in The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth Saturday 23rd January 2010 from 2 pm until 5.30 pm. At present we are finalizing our list of speakers having 14 confirmed to date they will speak.

Report on Cooley Environmental & Health October Meeting

At 10 am on Sunday 11th October 2009, The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth was the venue for the meeting which was full with enthusiasm with main business focusing around the forthcoming workshop on the theme of: “Back to Basics – A Plan for Survival” which is being held in The Strand Hotel Omeath Saturday 23rd January 2010 from 2 pm – 5.30 pm. To date 14 speakers have confirmed they will speak at the workshop in areas of which they are involved at various levels. Four more speakers are being sourced and it is hoped to have them on board by our November meeting before the Irish Republics budget is out which in turn may or may not influence their speech contend at the workshop.

At present most of us are aware at various levels of the impact on our society of present economic and social happenings which are all linked interdependently having impacts for all of us which may fuel a need in us for a plan for survival as we so often theses days hear the words like recession, job cuts, cuts in services, cuts, cuts in welfare, marriage break ups, drop in church attendances, climate change and not forgetting a war on poverty. So in that light we feel we all need a plan for survival and in doing this we need to address our basic requirements if we are to survive in a more focused global economic structure of which we are an agent in the light of being part of the EC and how close we are to be in unison with economic and social policies of that power block that are suitable for our collective and individual requirements to survive in our part of the globe.

Cooley Environmental & Health Group Meeting

This well attended meeting showed great enthusiasm for the workshop that is being held in The Strand Hotel Omeath Co Louth on Saturday the 23rd January 2010 from 2pm - 5.30 pm focusing on the theme of “Back to Basics – A Plan for Survival”. Sixteen speakers have been confirmed to date from various walks of life with two more been recruited.
The theme arouse great discussion as one member said “it was very relevant especially with our economy being in dire straits” with people all fighting their corner from various walks of life as we face this downturn in the economy in overdrive in an attempt to get Ireland back on it’s feet as a leader in Europe. So much interest was created that the meeting went on well over time with nobody wanting to go home.
Other issues have been put on long finger due to time constraints. These included Coastal Erosion in the Peninsula and the smell at Rockmarshall beach.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday 13th December 2009 in The Strand Hotel Omeath.
