National Anti War Mobilisation

category national | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Friday June 06, 2008 13:06author by Sara - Irish Anti War Movementauthor email info at irishantiwar dot org Report this post to the editors

Protest Bush visit to Belfast

Irish Anti War Movement calls for massive national mobilisation to protest Bush visit to Belfast on June 16th.

The Irish Anti War Movement will be supporting a protest that is currently being organised by its affiliate The Belfast Anti War Movement. An antiwar rally will take place in Belfast City Centre, at City hall at 12.30 on June 16th. The protest is being supported by a number of trade unions including ICTU, Unison, The Fire Brigade Union, Belfast Trades Council and the NUS-USI.

Richard Boyd Barrett, chair of the IAWM said that " it is shocking that George Bush should be invited by The First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. That a warmonger like Bush should be invited to speak about peace and reconciliation is ludicrous. Iraq has been under occupation for five years and over a million people have been killed in Bushs so-called 'war on terror'.

The situation in Iraq is worsening with over a million dead, 4 million displaced and according to CNN almost a third of all Iraqi children are suffering from malnutrition and nearly three quarters of Iraqi civilians do not have access to clean water. In Afghanistan the struggle of the US to maintain control against fierce resistance has seen thousands killed. And Iran is now being cited as a new threat to Bushs warped notion of democracy. Just last week John Bolton, a former member of Bushs inner circle, stated that the US should bomb Iran to ensure victory in Iraq.

The antiwar movement will be saying loud and clear that war criminal Bush is not welcome here.

The Irish Anti War Movement will be sending buses to Belfast to support this national mobilisation

The Bus will leave Dublin 10am on June 16th from outside Hugh Lane Gallery, Parnell Square

Good that the IAWM is at last starting to mention the posibility of an attack on Iran. The US president is touring Europe to drum up support for such an attack , telling leaders that his only regret in launching a war against Iraq is that he didn't explain his case well enough beforehand.
The IAWM needs to start emphasing the impact an attack on Iranian nuclear installations would have . Within three weeks three million people will die from fall-out according to American scientists . The radiation would spread across the world -Ireland would not escape. The world must come together to stop this from happening. The present situation has profound international revolutionary implications.
