Why not dump the coal at the entrance to the Chinese embassy.
The Chinese are the top burners of coal in the world and are fast becoming the number one producer of greenhouse gases.
The amount of greenhouse gases Ireland produces is almost irrelevant compared to the industrial giants.

The only way that 6.5 billion people are going to stop polluting at the current rate is either a gigantic famine wipes out everyone except a few hundred million or the collective of brainboxes get their heads together and come up with a solution.

I have faith in human beings to come up with a way out of global warming and environmental destruction.

Otherwise the human race is doomed.

I remember from my early school days being told that plants and trees convert CO2 into Oxygen, when did this change ? I also find it beyond belief that a lot people are falling for this scam of a carbon tax, don't you realize that we all exhale CO2.
I know lets not breath, that will save the planet.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for cleaner fuel, and a more earth friendly outlook, but to pretend the solution to this problem is a tax is beyond belief. Why not legalize hemp, which can take care of all our fuel needs.

How long will it be before was have these well intentioned fools calling for a one child policies, and the culling of the old and infirm as a way to reduce our carbon footprints. Come on people, don't be led down this path.

Please don't let the powers that be convince you that humanity is the enemy of the planet.

For pollution, over-fishing, desertification, habitat destruction, mass extinction of other species etc.

Elements of humanity are responsible, not the whole of humanity, and to simply focus on CO2 as the problem is a waste of peoples time and efforts.

Do you honestly think that reducing mans CO2 emissions will have any effect on the planet, other than enriching the coffers of a small global elite.

Don't you find it strange that the people who are most vocal about reducing CO2 emissions tend to live the most lavish of lifestyles, jetting here, there and every where.

Can you explain why the carbon dioxide ice caps near Mars's south pole are melting. Maybe it has something to do with the solar cycles.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

And now we see All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

All I ask is that people look critically at the solutions we are being offered, and not run head long into the belief that the whole of humanity is responsible for global warming/cooling/warming/cooling.

The Rulers of the planet throughout history have always preyed on the fears of humanity, and the sky has been falling for a long time.

As i pointed out above. Indeed i would rate habitat destruction, over hunting and introduction of exotic species as more important then predicted climate change atm. Many politicians including the gombeens who run this country think they can fool the electorate into thinking they care about the planet by spouting nonsense about global warming such as encouraging the use of biofuels etc. Of course the production of biofuels in many cases actually require more energy then they save not to mention the increased rate of deforestation and rising food prices that growing biofuels are responsible for.

At the end of the day all these problems are caused by the fact that there are simply too many humans on this planet (a massive 6.7 billion currently and growing by nearly 90million a year). A recent UN study stated that for every person to have a decent standard of living without compomising future generations and the world ecosystems the ideal population is 2 billion. To say the future looks bleak for both humanity and the living planet is to put things mildly.

Wow !! I thought it would take much longer before people started calling for a cull of Humans. Do tell how you propose to reduce the population.

Will you lead the march to kill people, will you sterilize your children, in the name of saving the planet ? Will you report your neighbours for enviro crimes and see them carted of to camps for reeducation?

You say " gombeens who run this country think they can fool the electorate into thinking they care about the planet by spouting nonsense about global warming such as encouraging the use of biofuels etc."

Yet you seem to hold the UN in high regard, incredible !! If you truly believe that population reduction is the way to go, why not front up and take yourself out of the equation, you could be a hero. Why not start a suicide to save the Earth campaign, or do you expect others to have to make that sacrifice ?

author by ecologistpublication date Sat May 10, 2008 20:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Nowhere did I suggest "culling" humans. I simply stated the facts. Unless we can make another planet inhabitable in the near future the sheer mass of humans on this planet will soon cause an irreversible breakdown in many biological systems that are vital for life on this planet. From oceans to rainforests to wetlands and grasslands, all are being exploited beyond sustaineablility to the point were many are already exhausted and are no longer usefull to man or beast.

PS - Do you really believe humanity's numbers can continue to grow at the current rate without causing major problems for the the earths natural resources. Already we see the price of oil going through the roof thanx to the Chinese and Indians aspiring to our destructive Western way of living. Most commentators now agree that this centuary will see many wars fought between countries fighting over shinking natural resources such as oil. water, land etc.

Sticking you head in the sand and pretending we can go as we are is not an option as you have seem to want people to do!

It is only a theory that mankind is responsible for climate change. ONLY A THEORY! If you think Al Gore is the Messiah and his film 'An Inconvenient Truth' gospel then take a closer look at his Ice Core samples that show Global Warming follows CO 2 increase. It is in fact the other way around. Yes, his 'facts' are lies!

The earths volcanoes produce more CO2 than all of mankind and there is another 'theory' that the sun is causing even more warming. It is however more convenient to blame mankind if it is a 'Convenient Pretext' to enslave us with carbon taxes, create a Climate Chage industry and keep the underdeveloped world in the last century.

Grow up, open your eyes and stop following the hysterical bleeting of a few well polished politicians and bought off scientists. Al Gore is the same as Bush and his lies about Global Warming are just as ridiculous as Bushs lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction. Another puppet of the elite preaching another tactic of their fight to keep global control.

A possible measure not discussed above is planting more trees - this climate change may have occured before, we have only been studying weather for less than the blink of an eye on a geological scale. we could be in an interstitial period, still in an ice-age..

but I do think that planting more trees can only help. It also protects agains UV, locks up pollutants (as long as you don't burn the trees)
prevents soil-runoff...etc...
do you know that there is no provision for forestry in the latest rural development plan...

It's true there are "...too darn many of you" (to quote Bill Hicks). Any discussion on possible actions or measures for this? re education etc?
