Rishi Sunak has once again been dropping hints about leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. This is not credible, says Dr David McGrogan: such a feat would require a Government far more serious than this one.

It's been a wet winter and this is bad news for farmers, says Ben Pile. But with agricultural yields increasing sharply over recent decades, there's no reason to link it to climate change or start catostrophising about it.

Friday 11th jan 08 Soldier Hill

category international | history and heritage | news report author Friday January 11, 2008 16:18author by tarapiXie Report this post to the editors

Another successful day as the campaign continues, activists occupied one of the last remaining tree's on the route from 6.30am onwards on the compulsory purchase line at soldier hill.

Friday 11th jan 08

Two of them hung a banner from the tree in an attempt to make it clear that the protest will be continuing for the foreseeable future, whilst others on the ground hung more banners in order to raise awareness of our continuing defiance of this corrupt and crooked route. activists were overjoyed at the overwhelming support from members of the public, and local media coverage.

As the new year begins we are witnessing more activity from local and international activists all boldly defending our cultural heritage and natural resources.

Report just in, 4.30pm, A concerned member of the public has just informed us that SIAC workers have been spotted moving toward's the tree with chainsaws, we need more people to attend the ongoing protest at soldier hill each friday so we can halt the increasing destruction of this sacred landscape once and for all.

Both protesters were released after a late afternoon sitting in the Four Courts, Dublin. Bail conditions were imposed and their cases will be heard at 10.30 am next Wednesday at Navan District Court.

sorry Tarataratara- but i can't afford to get yer update on the mobile.

type it on here... one little thing. The situation at Tara transcends Nationalistic and race borders,
the issue is one of corporate and globalised greed, abuse of office by Minister Roche amongst others
and I have heard reports that a kind of ultra-nationalism and race superiority has infected the camps.

I hope the issue of eco struggle, currently on the newswires of many iMC's is not reduced to simple
racism and put into it's correct context- and that is that Tara is the result of the greed and abuse of
mandate and office by men who are not protecting the heritage of our country for future generations
of Irish Kids and kids of other cultures who have the rights to education and knowledge no
matter what their colour..
hope the protestors are ok- and the info was reliably sent to me by a campaigner who will not
work with people who make distinctions on race and Not ECO ABUSE.

contextualise or fail.

Thanks for the advice, duly passed on.

One male protester has been cut from machinery and is now in Garda custody. A female protester remains chained and locked on and will not leave until cut away also.

There have been savage assaults by workers against the protesters over the last few days , things have turned nasty for anyone brave enough to go on site.

Banner protests still hold strong on the road and more numbers are needed there.

BBC DUBLIN will be recording interviews at Soldier's Hill tomorrow 3pm as well as TG4. TheBBC documentary will air in 3 weeks time. Please come along .

it's be good to have tech down there, given the visual evidence of recent assaults.

Know your rights.

If there is no techie- get a notebook and call the Gardai, we don't want any more reports
of assaulted protestors, especially since the assaults had until recently gone largely
unreported. Note cop numbers and ask names of workers if they attempt to breach rights
to physical safety until someone can negotiate the issue.

Hi,

I have posted this picture again showing the foundations clearly of the M3 , which has now been tarred in this section. Protesters on site say

"It is absolutely horrendous, like your worst nightmare".

Please protest against this outrage by being present at Soldier's Hill Friday 3pm. There will be a further protest and route walk on Sunday going from the Vigil and Rath Lugh Camps at 2.30pm. We need MAXIMUM numbers so please tell everyone who has a heart for Tara to be there.

Please be advised that the ground is very mucky so wear waterproof sensible shoes.

Pics will be posted soon illustrating the disgusting Tar on Tara.

Morale in the camps has never been higher despite the evidence unfolding daily of the Monster Road that threatens our Sacred Heritage. Protesters report that numbers are growing and spirits are high as a result in the upsurge of support.

Heartfelt thanks to all.

Hi all,

The high winds and rain did not dampen our spirits at Soldier's Hill today. In fact it all helped to add to the laughter as we tried not to set sail with our banners :)

Thanks to all who beeped their support.

What time on Fridays? I can organise to be there if I know when and where. Soldier's Hill ? Whats left of it.
Great to hear there is good responce from drivers going by and from locals still. I know how encouraging it is when cars beep in support and how glad they are to see ye!!!

It's a heartbreaking picture of the last tree and what is going on behind it. They have destroyed so much in a very short time.

Please post details of Friday demo asap. Thanks.
