category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday April 12, 2007 11:16author by Internationale - Ógra Shinn Féinauthor email osfnational at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Ógra Shinn Féin activist Ian Breslin has just returned home from a tour of the Basque Country (5 - 10 April). Ian was there to show our support for Segi, after they were deemed a ‘terrorist organisation’ by the Spanish courts. Whilst in the Basque country Ian addressed various gatherings and demonstrations.

You must get a great feeling of achievement when you stand up on an international platform holding your national flag knowing it has an independent partitioned state attached to & at least 2 Ken Loach movies whilst the others all together are still oppressed by the castillian or french imperialist states and have to share one Ken Loach amongst them all. I'm sure the other people look at your "nation state" flag sort of wistfully, happy to see on a political platform instead hainging over the door of their local tourist bar which is more expensive than they can afford. Oh yes. They're bound to admire you with a great thirst for further freedom indeed.

I just can't help wondering what language do you all speak at these internationalist nations without states gigs. Would it be Bearla or Castellano?

I do hope you bring these poor people cans of Guinness and bottles of Whiskey so their thirst is quenched and they know what they're missing.

gora guirri!

Irish one, Catalan independence (yellow star on red triangle not the marginally more expensive and popular blue triangle with white star) Galizian independence flag. a little county standard.... but no Basque flag??? God! the basques have loads of flags. Other nationalities often feel wanting on the flag front facing their array of cris-crosses, eagles, chains & nifty off Quebec fishing standards & so on. Coudln't you have brought a starry plough with you? a harp? a simple green table cloth with "poblacht" written on it?

Do you feel safer now yer back in Erin? I hope you do - getting your photo and personal details on spanish fash websites just might be worse than C18 over in Nottingham.

Today's little basque news update is that the abertzale left have found a political party name under which to contest the elections, it has no "B" in it - no matter what you do to it on the anagram thing you won't get b-a-t-a-s-u-n-a & they're delighted. with themselves since their last effort "ASB" of a few weeks ago (march 27) was finally rejected by the courts for having the "B" in it complete with the "atasuna" and boasting on a very discreet level all the usual members of the "B" bunch.
The new name is "Accion Nacionalista Vasca", which means "Basque nationalist action", it was formed in 1930 during the 2nd republic by people who didn't want to vote PNV and was added to the register again in 1977. Everyone forgot about it since then. No elections, no puntings, no posters, no members. Well that's going to change. Lots of Basque nationalist active sort people will happily have a bash at democracy "and constitutionalism" under this name for the elections on May 27th.

Unless of course the Spanish inquisition find a B or even a "b".

But I bbet you mnby bottomb dollarb that the flag will be the same ;-)

Bake = Siochain.
keep up your great work.
