Galway, Shell to Sea : Further protest today against Iggy Madden's denudation and rape of Bellanaboy

category galway | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday March 30, 2007 20:40author by TD - Shell to Sea Report this post to the editors

660,000 metric tonnes of pristine blanket bog is going to be butchered from the earth

Galway Shell to Sea activists eschewing stronger stuff for the time being, today, mounted a picket against Iggy Madden Haulage on Lough Atalia Road and outside his nearby depot. Over 20 activists participated including the front line troops of the SWP and SP and the cutting edge and conscience of Rossport in the form of 3 of the Rossport 5 and wives.

Madden, crony, gopher/gofer and right hand man of the disgraced Frank Fahey (Fahey had the free use of Madden's trucks during the last General Election) has a nice little earner in the shape of removing some 660,000 metric tonnes of Bellanaboy blanket bog and dumping it in a Bord Na Mona cutaway bog in Bangor Erris. Redolent of the notorious corrupt insuring of Larry Goodman's sale of beef to Saddam Hussein's Iraq, Madden, it turns out, is insured by Born Na Mona or the Irish taxpayer if there's a massive ecological fuck-up by the dumping of such massive amounts of bog and slurry.

So it goes, the, in your face, parasitic/symbiotic relationship of Big Business and government or perhaps it 's just what Benito Mussolini called "Fascism ; the true union of corporate and state power"?.

Nice use of a placard of a placard... I'm sure those pics will confuse a few Shell trolls, they're not very bright!

I should have made it explicitly clear that the big, discomfited looking dude directly beneath the "Madden! You truck for Shell, you have no truck with conscience" placard is Iggy Madden himself.

You all should have done your research properly and gotten the facts about this man straight before you went throwing allegations about his association with Frank Fahey. As most Galway people will be able to tell you, Iggy Madden is, and always has been a staunch Fine Gael supporter-He has never even spoken to Frank Fahey let alone given him trucks for a general election-mind you why a politician would need artic trucks in an election is anybody's guess! Trying to Sensationalise your campaign by spouting fabricated facts and stories reeks of desperation and is more than a little pathetic.

As one of those at the first protest at Iggy Maddens I must agree that the man himself said- 'why don't you go to Frank Fahy's, why don't you go to Roadbridge etc- this does not sound like they are friends. It does our cause no good to get facts wrong or write inflammatory stuff,Iggy knew why we were there, we know why we were there, but lets keep to the facts. We will continue our protests because the cause is just and everyone who plays any part in the destruction of erris against the will of its people and community should be aware that many of us will be critical of and vocal on their part in it.
