The author of the message on the bomb was using a common grammatical device to write causal slang speech.
Here is = here's.
Village = Vill

But who cares anyway the bomb hopefully vaporised a high trained highly educated and highly motivated Islamic terrorist.

What like the one's in Iraq? There are only one group of terrorists in Iraq and they are foreign too. They are all from Gruntsville Kentucky and Redneckriver Oklahoma and the likes.

that the comparison between US soldiers and those they have been sent to fight (the fundamentalist terrorists) is a difficult one to make on grounds of literacy, mathematical ability, training, general education.
We do know that the average suicide bomber (for instance) comes from what in the "west" would be termed a "middle class" background. Is aged between 19 and 26 (on average) and has undergone third level education, in comparison to the "mean" of their surroundings they are "an elite ".
We do know that the average US soldier's military _training_ is amongst the best in the world, compared to other standing armies, but that the general education level (literacy, spelling, math) is _very low_ a factor which contributes to their choosing a career in the army.

As for "motivation", commentators in the "west" generally think "patriotism" is motivation enough,
but defining "patria" is difficult beyond the second verse of Holst-
I vow to thee my love and country,-

The problem really is "heaven".
If we could properly agree at international level how to abolish "heaven" once and for all, or at least to come to some sort of quantified and agreed beurocratic procedure on entry to "heaven", supported and defended by trusted international institutions, and open to scrutiny with most probably a "heaven ombudsman" we'd have
"Peace in our Time".
Remember the russians wrote on their ICBMs as well. and very rude things too. And the men of ulster wrote on the side of the Titanic!!! oh yes they did. yeah verily did they.

Once again. I was talking about the poor attempt at "Ireland"
scrawled in the top left of the photograph. And maybe trying to convey a certain amount of shame. No, not that he can't write his own name, but the fact that he is doing that in our name. "Not in our name", is my point. Sheesh.

Here's one to shut up all those moaning trolls who complain that reporting on shannon will make ireland a target. For all those insurgents without internet access the americans have kindly supplied them with our nationality on a bomb, who does the writer represent, not us i assume and yet some day soon someone combing through a bomb crater is going to find the name of our country beside whatever shredded remains they can find of their kin. Yay thank you american twats, why dont those brave boys write their home names and addresses if they want to grandstand and show how hard they are.

IT MAY NOT BE THE ANTIDOTE TO THIS POISONOUS/CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT OF OURS, BUT, AT LEAST ....
it's a moment of truth that these fuck's are in denial of and, as such, I request all anti-war activists to use this tweaked, powerful image of M. Price, to post - with the honourable exceptions of Michael D, Joe Higgins, David Norris and other politicos of primo ilk -
to our TD's /Senators/Irish Euro MP's, our great and fucking good, to out and shame them, to say, "you wear no clothes, Ireland's "neutrality" is bollock naked, you idly skulk and corrupt us with your Quisling lies when the butchered of Fallujah are fodder for dogs.Galway Alliance Against War has, already, 500 printed in A5 size and on Thursday/Friday, bejaysus, for sure, the politcos will be receiving our ex cathedra message, "Not in our names, fucker, you play fucking Judas ! ". Well, not as bauld and brutal as that, just a smidgen more subtle, just, only just.

The United States is a collective group of many different peoples and many different ideas. That's one the things that makes this country so great. Here's another one of those ideas for you to think about......
Decade after decade, countries spanning the globe have fought each other over disputes that the U-S initially had nothing to do with, but ended up helping to resolve (by diplomacy or force) usually at the request of one or more of the active participants. For example: Britain/Germany WWII, France/Germany WWII, France/Vietnam, Israel/Egypt, Kuwait/Iraq, Iraq/Iran, and usually at the request of the UN/any number of African regional conflicts.
And let's not forget about disease, hunger, and natural disasters. Every single year there is some natural disaster, on this planet in some god forsaken place that some poor bastard is forced to call home. Without fail, who is it that comes rushing to their aid? It isn't Ireland, France, Germany, Canada or Russia. It certainly isn't any of those "Middle Eastern" countries or even Israel. More time than not, it's the United States providing a huge majority of the incoming aid. When was the last time Ireland, France, Germany or any other snotty superior European country offer to help with some natural disaster in the U-S? It's been a long long time since we've heard about that happening.
One day, with or without the civilized world's help, the terrorist will be defeated. Yes the world will be safer and the terrorists little more than a memory. Shortly thereafter, there will be some other calamity that "Progressive European Thinkers" can't (or won't) deal with and once again they'll end up on our doorstep looking for help or a handout. If our government is smart, ("if" being the key word) it will tell the world....."Gee, not our problem anymore. You're on your own!"

PS: If there happen to be any of you socialist members of the A.C.L.U. surfing this site.......Merry "CHRIST"mas to you all!

I should have posted the source, here it is. As for photoshopping - maybe the dead bodies we saw lying in the streets in Fallujah were photoshopped by those wiley jihadis, maybe the WTC was photoshopped. As a matter of fact go to http://serendipity.li . I was just saddened that our country's name was on that bomb.

i have checked the link and i do not think this pic has been shopped, but even at that it may be someone's surname. However i do agree that it is shameful to have your nation on a bomb that is used to murder people.
On another note, when the bomb does go off, there will be very little outer shell fragments big enough to contain the whole word "Ireland" unless the writting is small.
It is pretty niave to think that the world does not already know about Irelands gift of the use of Shannon to American military forces. I know a good few people worlwide who are aware of the activities in Shannon and have been for quite some time. What confuses them most is the seemingly willingness of the Irish population to tolerate this. i tell them different but they are pretty unconvinced.

author by Reality Checkpublication date Wed Dec 15, 2004 16:09author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The cropping of the photo is rather convenient as it excludes any possibility of finding out the context. The soldier could be from Ireland, his second name could be Ireland. He could be saying that he f**king hates Ireland for all we know.
As for the handwriting analysis, that's just childish. Why don't you have a look at the graffiti pages that were posted here as art recently if you want to see primary level calligraphy.

'The Army’s official label is Route Irish. But the soldiers call it “RPG Alley,” a reference to rocket-propelled grenades and the frequency of attacks on the road between Baghdad and the international airport.'

'The Army's 1st Cavalry Division has about 1,000 soldiers dedicated to guarding the highway, which the U.S. military refers to as Route Irish. Still, suicide attacks there have averaged several a week.'

'It's the road to Baghdad's international airport. Called Route Irish by the U.S. military, the road is also known as "ambush alley."

Barely 7 miles long, the four-lane highway is emerging as a symbol of U.S. troubles in Iraq.'

Not hard to work out why - probably the next place lots of troops get to disembark after the duty free in shannon. I posted te original link to wapo last night - thought it should have stayed a story. If you search all irish pages in google - not a single mention ever. Search google proper and it is everywhere in connection with war rpg alley etc. Found it by accident but was floored by this.

1) It could be the scribes own name. Ever heard of Kathy Ireland, supermodel - http://www.kathyireland.com/?

2) There are hundreds of thousands of people of Irish descent in the US military, probably thousands of Irish citizens, so they're as entitled to make a comment about Ireland as anyone on the island.

3) Why is it a poor attempt? I_R_E_L_A_N_D - yep, that's "Ireland" all right. Perhaps the scribe should have used Photoshop to make a sticker with proportional letters, using a nice font with appropriate kerning for the underlying surface. Give me a break.

So many bending over backways to be apologists for murderers when such crimes should be condemned at every possible turn. What did the Iraqi's DO exactly to warrant the type of munitions we see being used against them? America ILLEGALLY INVADED IRAQ, and now it's carrying out a mass slaughter of it's civilians? Why?

This is why!!!!
