the momentum for the ARN march - carnival rally is growing. Public endorsement and support already to date has come from, the Chinese Welfare Association, The Belfast Jewish community, The Indian Community centre, the Belfast Islamic centre, the Multi Cultural Resource Centre, The Latin American Support Group, Travellers organisations. Also from the trade union movement - to date - the Irish Congress of Trade Unions {ICTU}, as well as Unison, T&G, NIPSA and from the Belfast Trades Union Council. Support and endorsement also from the N.Ireland Human rights Commission, the N.Ireland Law Centre, The N.Ireand! Children’s Commissioner, as well as political parties, local community, writers, solidarity and women’s groups and organisations.
There is also two local community feeder marches from West and South Belfast confirmed to date, and preparation is on going to mobilise for these.
West Belfast assembles Roden Street 1pm Sat Oct 30th
South Belfast assembles Shaftesbury Sq at 1pm on the 30th Oct
We are still looking into one from North Belfast , with the main starting point for the rally begining at the Arts College at 2pm
The poster can now be downloaded from the ARN website www.arnni.tk Can this begin to be circulated widely amongst networks, workplaces, colleges, friends and family and also for supportive organisations to urge their membership to attend. Also we are making up banners, streamers and flags etc, to add to the carnival a! tmosphere, while at the same time ensuring that we put across an important message.
So we urge trades unions, and local organisations to bring along or do up their own local banners.
For example an ARN supporter who is head of the Art Department in St Louise's school is getting some of his students together to do up a banner 'St Louise's students against Racism' to participate in the rally, while other persons are meeting up for a get together while again making up other local banners as well.
Also keep the endorsements coming in to antiracism_ni@hotmail.com the full list of endorsements will be given to the media for our press conference early next week.
Final for the moment, there is an ARN stall in Belfast this Sat it meets 2pm outside Tescos in Royal Ave. This involves handing out leaflets etc - we urge people to come down and lend a hand. So spread the word and let’s get ready to rally against racism while celebrating our diversity,
Davy Carlin on behalf of the ARN steering group. 20/04/04
