Yassamine Mather writes on the execution of the Kurdish militants in Iran, She provides historical background to the Kurdish struggle and makes clear that the Anti-Imperialist response to the judicial murder of Kurds should not be to call for the Iranian regime to be hauled before a tribunal for ‘crimes against humanity'. It should be to step up our solidarity. Full text at link. Four of the five political prisoners executed by the Islamic government in Iran in the early hours of Sunday May 9 came from Kurdistan and were accused of membership of the left nationalist group, the PJAK (an Iranian version of the PKK). The executed prisoners - Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Farhad Vakili, Shirin Alamhouli and Mehdi Eslamian - all denied membership of “political organisations” and the PJAK issued a statement clarifying that none of those executed had any organisational links with it. Farzad Kamangar was a teacher and trade unionist who had been accused of “endangering national security” and “enmity against god”. read full story / add a comment

Comhlámh (pronounced ‘co-law-ve', Irish for ‘solidarity') is a member and supporter organisation open to anyone interested in social justice, human rights and global development issues. Marking its 35th anniversary this year it connects, informs, educates and campaigns on these matters. Comhlámh was set up originally in 1975 to support development workers returning home and to promote greater understanding of development issues in Ireland. Today the support we provide to development workers and volunteers before, during and after overseas assignments is a core element of our work. We also actively promote the continued involvement of returned development workers and volunteers in working for a better world from Ireland and provide a range of information and opportunities for how you can get involved. read full story / add a comment

"On Saturday (May 15) the true nature of the Twenty-Six County state was once again exposed as the Garda violently attacked those who dare to oppose NAMA, the bank bailouts and the savage programme of cutbacks. "The Garda response to éirígí’s protest was not the result of an operational blunder or lack of experience. The decision to attack peaceful protesters was both premeditated and well planned. And more importantly is was highly political. The Dublin government have clearly decided that the emerging resistance to their right wing economic policies must be crushed before it grows stronger." read full story / add a comment |
