éirígí chairperson Brian Leeson has warned Belfast City Council that any attempt to parade British soldiers through the streets of the city
would not go unopposed.

The Council is set to meet on Monday (September 1) to discuss proposals to have a homecoming ceremony for the Royal Irish Regiment when they return from the war in Afghanistan in November.

The Royal Irish Regiment, and their predecessors in the Ulster Defence Regiment, were notorious for terrorising nationalist communities and working hand-in-hand with their colleagues in the unionist death squads. read full story / add a comment

Shell to Sea protesters stepped up their campaign against Shell’s offshore pipe-laying operations by mounting a picket at the Shell compound, Glengad, Erris Co Mayo, Ireland. A daily picket was maintained at the Bellanaboy refinery site from the summer of 2005 till recently. This is the first time since 2005 that a picket has been staged at the Shell 'Security Zone' in Glengad. The picket started at 7am and lasted till 9am, during which time Shell security, who were ready to leave after their overnight shift, remained on site for the duration. Shell workers arriving for work at the site remained outside. The picket was stood down voluntarily at 9am and the workers left and entered the compound consequently. read full story / add a comment

This evenings picket of the Spanish embassy in Dublin 4 had a pretty good turn out considering it was called at less than a days notice. No less than 15 anarchists turned up as well as perhaps a dozen uniformed cops and four secret police. The secret police were so friendly they insisted on taking everyones name and addresses.

Practice your oral Spanish and learn about Latin American issues! This unique space is aimed at intermediate and above level students who want to practice their Spanish. The class size is limited to 12 participants. There will be no formal teaching and using it to discuss Latin American issues. Each week a given theme will be introduced, discussed and appropriate vocabulary provided (e.g. debt, volunteering in Latin America, trade, justice, gender, environment, popular culture, indigenous issues etc.) This course is perfect if you are planning to visit Latin America (or have just come back!) and want to know more about the reality there. Great fun and a way to meet new people.
No formal teaching takes place.
