CHASE have submitted forensic analysis of Indaver’s new material to Bord Pleanala which reveals a starving model man on under 1,000 calories a day in order to meet EU dioxin intake limits, a gross underestimation by over 57metres of the vertical emissions dispersal and associated risk zone to helicopters, comparisons with a helicopter landing base near a UK Naval base that fails to mention that helicopter operations there ceased in 2012, three years before the nearby incinerator commenced operation in 2015, as well as ongoing dioxin discrepancies. Old Dublin Society Cumann le Seandacht Átha Cliath Email: olddublinsociety@gmail.com - Booking is strongly recommended: dublinstudies@dublincity.ie or telephone: 01 6744999 Old Dublin Society Press Release As part of the National Heritage Week, the Old Dublin Society will present a talk on Watson’s Nursery 1884-1967: From Clontarf to Killiney on Wednesday, August 23rd in Dublin City’s Library & Archive, 138 Pearse Street, Dublin 2 at 6pm. The talk will be given by Mrs. Bernardine Ruddy, President of the Old Dublin Society - the premier history society for Dublin and Dubliners established in 1934. Booking is strongly recommended: dublinstudies@dublincity.ie or telephone: 01 6744999 Till its closure in 1967, Watson’s Nursery had a high profile in the world of horticulture. It was synonymous with quality and reliability with shops in Nassau Street and enjoyed an extensive mail order business at home and abroad. The move from Clontarf was due to being landlocked by the railway line and open sea. And so the move to Killiney was accomplished by 1920 and enabled them to enlarge their business. Now the Watson family name is perpetuated in the naming of the roads and avenues in Killiney, Co. Dublin forever more. The Old Dublin Society holds Spring and Autumn public talks on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in Pearse Street Library & Archive at 6pm. This demonstration today is to call for a BOYCOTT of goods from China and to appeal to the Ireland-Chinese Business Association to condemn all barbarity to dogs including Irish Greyhounds in China. We ask them to speak out on behalf of the tortured souls who are not protected by any Chinese legislation as none exists. We need their help to support change. This cannot be ignored any longer by businesses trying to entice Irish-Chinese trade links. Stop turning a blind eye to unacceptable practices that have been exposed. Many Irish people are horrified by how dogs are treated. Many Ex- Racing dogs have been shipped from Ireland to China, a country where dogs are routinely being boiled alive. The Irish Government have stood idly by as the IGB condone the export of ex- racing dogs. Many of the Irish dogs are ultimately at risk of being boiled alive in China for the meat trade. The Chinese don't care, the Irish Government don't care, The IGB couldnt care less either or they would not be allowing this. We urge a boycott of all travel to China and ask the Irish people to shun all Chinese goods and services until this injustice is stopped. read full story / add a comment

Ireland has become the fourth European country to ban hydraulic fracturing (after France, Bulgaria and Germany). On June 28, the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Prohibition of Onshore Hydraulic Fracturing) Bill passed the final legislative stages in the Seanad. The session included the committee, report, and final stages that took place in the Seanad chamber, where the gallery was full of supporters of the ban. It now requires only the signature of President Michael D. Higgins to become law. This is expected in the coming days. read full story / add a comment

Environmental group reacts to court ruling that grants Ryanair leave to participate in runway challenge The High Court today allowed Ryanair to participate in a legal challenge being taken by Friends of the Irish Environment against Fingal County Council's decision to extend the permission granted in 2007 for a third runway at Dublin Airport. Ryanair, which originally opposed the third runway, now supports it and came to court claiming it had a financial interest in the runway going ahead. FIE Director Tony Lowes commented: "We are deeply concerned that Ryanair, a company which denies the existence of climate change has now been accepted as a party to these proceedings. We are concerned that the court’s decision will skew the proceedings away from the environmental impacts of aviation towards commercial considerations. read full story / add a comment

international / anti-capitalism / news report Sunday June 25, 2017 23:22 by Socialist Party Reporter 1 image
Reproduced from the editorial of “The Socialist”, newspaper of the Socialist Party in England and Wales As more details emerge and the death toll rises, it becomes clearer and clearer what a terrible disaster this is. The fire spread with horrifying speed and witnesses describe heart-breaking scenes as people desperately tried to escape. It is a huge tragedy for the immediate community. Children have died; three generations of the same family have died. But rather than being torn apart, the community has come together in a remarkable display of human solidarity, supporting each other, collecting donations of goods and money, organising emergency accommodation, coordinating relief. The heroism, the courage, the self-sacrifice of the emergency services and of local residents is incredible. Who can fail to be moved by the scenes of the firefighters being applauded as they drove away from the scene? And there has naturally been a much wider outpouring of sympathy with the residents and families affected, with overwhelming donations of money, clothes, bedding, toys, nappies, etc. The true face of humanity has been shown in this solidarity. read full story / add a comment
