It is becoming apparent that sections of the U.S. Secret Service are presently in Dublin preparing the way for the arrival of ex-U.S. Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton attending the Ryder Cup. The televised gaze of the world turns to Ireland with the arrival of these two men who faciltated the deaths of over a million children under the age of 5 (UNESCO) under the 12 year geocidal sanctions regime on Iraq. read full story / add a comment

Not to be backgrounded in world events, the new Hitler youth Pope of Rome, Ratzinger (by any other name) spouted his ultra-right-wing divisionist diatribes to the world today – are there any Muslims out there? Ratzinger’s highly inflammatory references to a previous crusading Pope’s diatribes against Islam were intended to inform the world that he has not forgotten his Nazi past, Ratzinger has left little doubt as to what he really represents – there is no cause for concern, however, as he is in ‘good’ company; neo-cons, Zionists and other ultra-conservative groups welcomed confirmation from the Pope that he is one of them. However, Ratzinger’s credentials as a representative of his God and saviour, the Prince of Peace Jesus Christ, took a severe battering today. read full story / add a comment

'Peak oil' is a term that has become almost mainstream by now- basically it signals the end of cheap oil. Most of us will have heard this already and as oil prices increase almost every month at this stage the government is finally waking up to the fact. Or is it? Recently in the Irish Times Marc Coleman, Economics Editor wrote that Brian Cowen said 'The government had NO contingency plan to deal with the prospect of a SEVERE INCREASE in oil prices' .

Now, usually politicians 'put a brave face on' when dealing with times of crisis- it is rare indeed that someone in Cowen's position is so forthright, yet there we have it in black and white- the government has plainly admitted that we are on our own- we cannot rely on the government to help us through the imminent energy crisis that now faces us. read full story / add a comment

On this day 50 years ago IBM unveiled its RAMAC (Random Access Memory Accounting Machine). A computer machine which weighed several tonnes & occupied the same space as a bunch of fridge freezers. It was the first hard drive which could be searched & accessed without starting from the "beginning" of the data flow & running to the end, such as one must do with a magnetic tape.

Between 13/9/56 and its withdrawl from the market in the mid 1960's IBM sold over 6,000 of the units each of which could store 5 megabytes of information. read full story / add a comment
