A one-day workshop in group harmony singing, chanting and vocal improvisation open to all. No solo singing, you don't have to be a 'good' singer to take part. This workshop will bring you on a musical tour from the Andes to Africa to America and will allow you to connect with, explore and experiment with your voice. Great fun, great creative flow and stress-release. Plenty of tips on breathing and vocal production. Facilitated by Rachel Dempsey, lead singer in Dublin Latin band ‘Candela’, ethnomusicology graduate and experienced voice work and global education facilitator.The day will be held in a beautiful space called Oscailt, a natural therapy centre in Ballsbridge. Great acoustics, a tranquil environment and plenty of beanbags & blankets!

A publication called Centre Focus is a regular newspaper funded by FAS. It uses as an office the Centre for The unemployed North Main st.

The building is owned by Cork Council of Trade unions. In a series of tabloid style articles it has raised concerns about sterotyping and attackiing those that are involved in progressive activist work and in particular the greater understanding between different ethnic and religous groups.

Many complaints have been made about its editorial style but why is it not being discussed on a wider format.? read full story / add a comment

Racism drops as integration increases in Ireland- survey suggests
A survey commissioned by the Irish government's National Action Plan against Racism has indicated towards a significant drop in the level of racism in Ireland. A representative sample of the population as a whole participated in the survey carried out by IMS Consultants. The results contrasts sharply with the recent results pointing to an increase of 15% in Northern Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Women reporting rape run the risk of being imprisoned for having sexual intercourse outside marriage.

"Women's rights activists are getting killed, women's NGO workers are getting killed, and that is not going to change unless some drastic action is taken,"

The following is a link to a Democracy Now interview, conducted by Amy Goodman, with former US Abu-Ghraib interrogator Tony Lagouranis, who is currently speaking at Anti-War Ireland events around Ireland. He spoke at the protest in Shannon last Saturday and called for the expulsion of the US war machine from that airport.
