Unlike Valentines Day and Mothers Day, cards aren't given and presents aren't bought. What is happening? IRMA, the Irish Recorded Music Association, wants to block Irish Internet users' access to certain websites. They have written letters to Irish Internet providers telling them, under threat of legal action, to allow IRMA to tell them what websites to block. Eircom has already agreed to this. They will settle every application for website blocking out of court. No sites have been blocked yet. We have limited time to act before the bans are set. A copy of the letter sent out to Irish ISPs has been kindly made available by Michele Neylon of Blacknight Solutions. Read it here. read full story / add a comment ![]()

One reason graffiti is such a volatile issue is because it touches on many fundamental questions of urban life. What constitutes public space? Who gets to decide how it will be used? Is advertising in public spaces a form of pollution? Jon Reiss’s 2008 documentary Bomb present a wide sampling of graffiti art from around the world, and a variety of viewpoints relating to graffiti. He includes interviews with everyone from first-generation graffiti artists to academic theorists: segments shot in South Africa, Brazil, Europe and Japan are particularly useful in broadening the discussion. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Over ONE MILLION people have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Ireland has participated in and been complicit in these wars. These Iraqi and Afghan people are our brothers, sisters and our children, not, "some others" in a "them and us" war of resources. Show your solidarity with the victims of a war that used Ireland as one of its principle launching pads. Over ONE MILLION armed US troops and thousands of tons of munitions, passed through Shannon airport. Over 1,000 CIA related flights were refuelled at Shannon airport, many of them associated with the US Torture rendition programme. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Year after year, ARAN and caring people around the world have urged the Canadian government to end the annual seal hunt.
