The Eviction came without warning, giving the squatters no chance to remove their belongings.
Thankfully as the squat had only been used as a social centre for the last few months and not as living space, no one was inside, and no arrests were made.
The contents of the house were emptied into a skip. read full story / add a comment

Young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives are being encouraged to talk to others about it in an innovative national mental health promotion campaign called ‘Tough Times’, which launched on June 19th. The campaign encourages young people to realise that it’s normal to experience difficult times and that, however small or big the problem, there are help and support options available. It points young people towards www.spunout.ie, which provides factsheets on a range of health and lifestyle issues, signposts users to relevant help services throughout the country and gives young people a platform to air their views. read full story / add a comment

Any visit to Ireland by Elizabeth Windsor is unacceptable and deeply offensive whilst her government and Armed Forces maintain England's Occupation of six Irish counties. Relations between Ireland and England can never be normal whilst such a crime continues to be perpetrated against this country and her people. Comments made in Lisburn by the 26-County Head of State are clearly designed to pave the way for such a visit. read full story / add a comment

The finding of the BBC's “State of Minds – The Children” programme that sectarianism is rife amongst children is unsurprising within the context of continuing English rule in Ireland. The English government has always sought to divide and conquer, and this has been no different in Ireland. Furthermore the 1998 Stormont Agreement served to institutionalise sectarianism. read full story / add a comment

The Galway Alliance Against War is organising a “99 Red Balloon Peace Event” at Galway’s Spanish Arch at noon on Sunday 24th June, the same day as the Salthill Air Show. Last year the Galway peace group ran a similar event, which ended in controversy when the Gardaí burst most of the red balloons. At the time the authorities claimed that the warplanes would be endangered if the balloons “collided” with them. Such claims were greeted with incredulity and the Gardaí were left with what resembled egg on their faces. read full story / add a comment
