In the Supreme Court on the 21st December 1972, Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh delivered judgment on the legality of the compulsory purchase by the State of a site below the four hundred feet contour lines on Tara. In the judgement, he stated: 'the Hill of Tara is properly to be regarded as a single unified site and not a series of separate archaeological monuments.' read full story / add a comment

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “upcoming issues”.

Today is august, 8th month 2005.
It is also Tisha B’Av or the 9th of Av, year of Moses 5765.
It is also the 9th day of Rajab, 1426 since the Hegira.
Today is historic because it sees the deadline for unilateral withdrawl from the Gaza strip of some 8000 plus living Israeli citizens and many of their dead.
Today may also be historic as under extreme pressure from the USA the Iraqi government are supposed to present a draft constitution. read full story / add a comment

In a monstrous abuse of the powers of Government and the courts, the Rossport 5 remain in Jail. The five men from Mayo are now in their sixth week in jail, on foot of an injunction the High Court accorded to Shell ordering them not to obstruct Shell’s work on the pipeline across their lands. This work on the pipeline, it has been established, was and is illegal because Shell did not and does not have consents they needed from Minister Dempsey to proceed. read full story / add a comment

Palestinians have longed for the day when they could reclaim their occupied land and see Israeli settlers and occupation forces leaving it. Now that day has arrived, at least in Gaza and Jenin. This letter is a candid reflection of the thoughts and emotions going through Palestinians' hearts and minds as they see these representatives of oppression and occupation leaving their land. read full story / add a comment

Don't be fooled by the headlines and the fancy graphics. The US is not worried about Iran's nuclear weapons programme. They would have taken more serious steps by now if they were. It's part of the War for Oil series. The main oil countries, or even pipeline countries will be included - Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria. And there's plenty of spin on the news to prepare public opinion for it. read full story / add a comment

'Jason is special to me because he has a disability and is different from other people. Since he’s been born he has not been able to see, hear, walk or talk. I know he is a gifted person because he got communion when he was 18 years old, and he received it on my sister’s birthday. I watch Jason when my mom is doing things around the house. I hold him on my lap and hug him because he is so little. Sometimes I give him his drink after supper. I taught Jason to drink by himself. I don’t like it when he pulls my hair but he doesn’t seem to understand.’ This is a quotation from a personal account by Lizzie Suwala on the Sibling Support Project website and she was 9 years old when she wrote it. read full story / add a comment

Japan, after consideration and debate over a two year peiod, looks set this year to alter
it's pacifist enshrined constitution. The Japanese government while clearly more right
leaning and nationalistic than of late, clearly echoes the sentiment of a certain proportion
of the Japanese people. With the North Korean nuclear threat and the ever growing strength of China,
Japanese people could be forgiven for being somewhat insecure, However it is mainly because
of the US backing prime minister Koizumi has received that he has felt as secure in
throwing his weight about recently in south east asia. read full story / add a comment
