Niall Harnett was today (Wednesday) sentenced to six months in Castlerea prison at Ballina Circuit court, for protests against Shell's proposed experimental pipeline. Mr Harnett had a sentence of six months imposed after refusing to undertake satisfactory community service. The sentence was in relation to a 'Reclaim the Beach' protest in the summer of 2008 where Mr Harnett went to the aid of another protestor who was being assaulted by Gardai. ---Corrib project has been imposed through 'harassment' of the local community--- 409 letters have been delivered from members of the community of Kilcommon to Shell's Belmullet offices today Monday. The letter outlines their refusal to meet with representatives of the company while Pat O'Donnell remains in jail and the imposition of the Corrib gas project continues without community consent. The letters detail a large number of grievances that the local community have with the imposition of the project, and state that people are refusing to meet with Shell while what “effectively amounts to ongoing and escalating physical and psychological harassement” continues in the area. The letters dismiss as hollow Shell's proposed 'consultation', in the context of the fact that the current and previous Managing Directors of the company have publicly stated that the project will not be changed in any way in response to community concerns. ... read full story / add a comment

Michael Dwyer was an employee of Irish based company Integrated Risk Management Services IRMS through whom it appears he made contact with international mercenaries and travelled to Bolivia. Badgerwatch (Ireland) is calling on Environment Minister, Mr. John Gormley, for an immediate halt to the killing of badgers for their alleged role in the spread of bovine TB. Latest figures released by the Department of Agriculture (DAFF) shows that almost 7,000 badgers were slaughtered by Department trappers in 2008. PRESS RELEASE - 30th September 2009 There has been a formal call for the OSCE to oversee the Irish Lisbon referendum amid growing concerns that the result of the Irish referendum may be manipulated by postal vote fraud. A source within the Dublin City Council has informed the former MEP candidate Fiachra Ó Luain of efforts by the head of the Franchise department to actively register residents of retirement homes, prisons and even the army. The source has said that the head of the Franchise department has unsupervised and unregulated access to the postal votes and suggests that there may be concerted efforts to influence the outcome of the Lisbon referendum by manipulation of the postal vote system. Former MEP, Patricia McKenna has accussed the EU Commission head, Barroso of illegal interference in Irish referendum, she said "its conveniently opportune that less than two weeks before Irish people vote on the Lisbon treaty the Commission announces that it proposes to give €15m in aid to help former Dell computer workers find new jobs. , Barroso is head of the EU Institution that will gain most power if the treaty is ratified, he should stay out of the debate and respect the existing EU treaties until such time as they are changed”.
