![]() Basque Pro-independence Left becomes the elections' success Try to imagine it for a second. Banned for 10 years. No offices, no money, no media coverage, forced to do political work underground, constant police harrassment, hundreds of arrests and torture, leadership imprisoned, media criminalization, 40,000 people unable to stand as candidates (their names appear on an unofficial police black list despite not having criminal records), convince 5,000 people who were never candidates to stand on a pro-independence left ticket while still banned (fear), create a new coalition (new name & logo included) not previously known to society and be allowed to take part only two weeks before election day, become the target of media criminalization once again...and despite all get the 22% of votes becoming the second largest party (it woud be the largest if a legal smaller pro-independence left party's votes were added) and the largest in councillors. At the heart of this capitalist Europe a socialist and pro-independence movement wins in the hardest and most unfair elections. It should make it to the front pages all over the place and attract the left movements' attention. This is the Basque Country. |
