Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6Just to say that there will also be a protest outside Belmullet Garda station on Saturday at 2 pm. The threat of rape is not new in the context of the Corrib protests - a complaint was made to the Garda Ombudsman previously - but in the nature of threats it is rare to have hard evidence of how police talk (and not only among themselves).
... are now online here:
The Dail is closed on a FRiday evening - maybe the protest should also go to Harcourt station, where a lot of political policing is controlled from? The state is guilty but so are the Gardai for all the opppression at Corrib.
I agree with Caroline, maybe after half an hour or so, we could walk in a spirit of solidarity with the besieged and persecuted people of Rossport. to Harcourt Station and stand there in silent protest ?
Or maybe to the GSOM office who has refused to investigate sexual threats to John Monaghan's Wife, threats which were followed up by several visits to her house when she was there alone by the same man in uniform. It is documented in today's Mail. Not a paper I like but it's good on this issue.
Hi Caroline, Union activist -
There was some discussion about where to go among the organisers and the feeling was that the Dail was more visible as the point of this protest is to make people's outrage visible (and to do it somewhere as central as possible given that it's a lunchtime demo). It all came together in a great hurry as you can imagine.
I'd say if the numbers are in it on the day it could be put to the organisers quietly (I'm just the postman on this one). Harcourt St looks more feasible in terms of distance and keeping people together. If there were good numbers it would stop traffic.
Sorry I read this happening at 8pm, I wont make a 1pm demo, wont be back in time.
Good luck with it.
(And I still think you should go to a Garda station!)
