Palestine: Total Capitulation

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Wednesday January 26, 2011 16:57author by pat c Report this post to the editors

Tariq Ali believes that the documents are genuine and that they expose the abject treachery of sections of the PLO leadership. Full text at link.

The ‘Palestine Papers’ being published this week by al-Jazeera confirm in every detail what many Palestinians have suspected for a long time: their leaders have been collaborating in the most shameful fashion with Israel and the United States. Their grovelling is described in grim detail. The process, though few accepted it at the time, began with the much-trumpeted Oslo Accords, described by Edward Said in the LRB at the time as a ‘Palestinian Versailles’. Even he would have been taken aback by the sheer scale of what the PLO leadership agreed to surrender: virtually everything except their own salaries. Their weaknesses, inadequacies and cravenness are now in the public domain.

Now we know that the capitulation was total, but still the Israeli overlords of the PLO refused to sign a deal and their friends in the press blamed the Palestinians for being too difficult. They wanted Palestine to be crushed before they would agree to underwrite a few moth-eaten protectorates that they would supervise indefinitely. They wanted Hamas destroyed.

This is a link to a very important article on the Al Jazeera revelations; and the role of nationalism in the oppression of the Palestinian people.

The principles identified in this article of course have equal validity for Ireland.

The events in Palestine and throughout the Middle East have provided fresh confirmation of the theory of permanent revolution developed by Leon Trotsky.

Really, how so? Why is his model of revolution in oppressed/colonised countries necessarily the correct one? Because the author says so?

And as for nationalism "oppressing" the Palestinians, they have every right to demand freedom from Israeli occupation and subjugation.

the point is that Israeli and European/American corporate nationalisms are the traditional imperial divide n conquer method, and that the colonial powers are adept at manipulating nationalist sentiment and its quasi religious beliefs to their own ends.

Nationalism has its place as a focus for organising counter-analysis and resistance to the dictating centralised imperial powers, but taken too far plays into the designs of these same powers. Israel has decoyed the Palestinian people with ever-retreating hoops to jump through, even as the outside players have corrupted emergent leaders, or supported alternative sectarian forces if they cannot induce compliance.
The net result is the erosion through settlements of virtually ALL Palestinian lands as the stalling carrot hypnotised the trust of the propagandised populations.

Many see the only way out now as the breaking of the Zionist brainwash before it degenerates any further, and the formation of a single multi-ethnic state based on human rights rather than the recidivistic failures of pseudo-racial apartheid statelets.

The oppressing entity is increasingly globalised, totallitarian and borderless(stretching as it now does into the militarisation of space).
Any solution will ultimately have to be globalised, pluralistic under internationalised legal parameters, and borderless

Optimism not included.

If you dig up a 3 thousand year graveyard in Israel you will find the direct ancestors of Palestinians.
You will dig out a relative of Yassar Arafat..

The Palestinians always remained in their homeland.

Even when the god of the Israelites called it "The Land of Cannan" and told them to invade Palestine three thousand or so ago the Palestinians called it "home" even then.

The Palestinians owned Israel even before the Bible was written.
