GradCAM presents the first lecture in Ireland by world-renowned Japanese political philosopher Kojin Karatani on Tuesday the 26th of October at Project Arts Centre, Dublin

In Project Arts Centre on Tuesday the 26th of October, 4-6pm, the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (aka GradCAM) presents the first-ever lecture in Ireland by world-renowned Japanese political theorist and philosopher Kojin Karatani.

This is a free public event but places are limited. Booking is advised at praxis@gradcam.ie

Kojin Karatani is the most significant intellectual figure to have emerged from Japan in the last three decades. This is the first lecture in Ireland by the world-renowned political theorist and philosopher.

In his acclaimed Transcritique: On Kant and Marx (2003) Karatani developed a theory of ethical economic practice understood through forms of associationism such as Co-ops and LETS, or Local Exchange Trading Systems. In 2000 he played an important political role in applying this theory to praxis and founding the New Associationist Movement (NAM) in Japan.

It is unclear today whether or not the Capitalist Free Market System will survive the current crises or if so what new structures this might produce, however, what is clear is that in these times of crises it is imperative that we explore alternatives that might otherwise be obscured.

Professor Karatani will be in Ireland to discuss these alternatives in relation to his forthcoming book On the Structure of World History (2010) - a timely analysis of revolution and repetition in history.

This is a free public event, but places are limited. Booking is strongly recommended. Please send an email to: praxis@gradcam.ie to reserve your place
