The EU's rollback of its petrol and diesel car ban is just the start of the bloc's retreat from Net Zero, says Ben Pile. Emissions reduction targets may remain in place for now, but don't imagine they will last long.

4th Annual Anti-Prohibition Marches

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Thursday May 06, 2010 02:40author by Cannabas Éirinn Report this post to the editors

Together with over 300 cities from around the world, Legalise Cannabis Ireland are proud to announce that the fourth annual Legalise Cannabis Day is to take place in both Dublin and Cork this Saturday the 8th of May. Through experience in this anonymous subculture we have repeatedly found that the vast majority of cannabis users in Ireland can consume cannabis responsibly. These are typically decent and similarly unharmful people who should be able to consume cannabis without being criminalised or having fear of oppression for doing so. Due to the nature of prohibition, our culture is largely unfarmiliar in the general public's eye. Despite this, we will march in protest of the criminalisation of cannabis users and we call for full utilisation of the cannabis plant for its medical, industrial, recreational and agricultural values.

The aim of Legalise Cannabis Day is to call for the Irish Government to withdraw from, repudiate, or amend any and all international treaties or agreements which limit its ability to alter domestic drug policy; to ensure that no patient shall be prosecuted nor any health care professional penalized for possession or use of any mutually agreed upon medications; to immediately release all non-violent cannabis users/growers; and to start using the billion euro cannabis market to help repair our economy rather than wasting resources and supporting organised crime by imprisoning peaceful cannabis users and growers.

Dublin: Assemble at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square at 2pm.

Cork: Assemble at the Bishop Lucey Park, Grand Parade at 2pm.

Thank you for your time,
Legalise Cannabis Ireland.

Education education education. Thats all that we need. I would not associate cannabis with what can be bought in the head shops, but a dichotomy of issues dealt with would be of benefit to the community as a whole. The sooner people realise that "choice" is a given, yes, even you holy joes out there blab on about "choice" God gave us a choice.... well if so, please let the able bodies, capable of independent thinking people get on with their lives and let them chose. This plant is referred to as a tree of life for a reason and the sooner the we accept it for what it is, the sooner the planet will be able to start repairing itself!

Power to the People. Revolution!!

While I support the legalisation of cannabis I think that this protest/message is slightly getting tired and predictable. I think it would have been better to have a 'support the head shops' protest, given the current climate of rabid witchhunts against them. It also would have gained a good bit more attention in the mainstream media (unfortunately this is important) and elevated the issue beyond a bunch of stoners looking for the freedom to get stoned when they want.
