Porsche has scrapped its sales targets for EVs amid a slump in demand. A previous goal of 80% by 2030 has been watered down and the company now says sales will depend on uptake and how the technology develops.

POWs take over landings at Maghaberry Jail

April 4, 2010

Republican POWs have taken over the wings Roe House 3+4 at Maghaberry Gaol today on Easter Sunday, in protest of worsening conditions at the jail.

Following Easter mass at the Chapel, 28 republican POWs returned to their landings at Roe House and barricaded themselves in the canteen. They have refused to go back to their cells. There is limited access to food and fresh water in the canteen for the present time.

Over the past seven months, conditions have radically deteriorated at Maghaberry with republican POWs being locked down up to 12 hours at a time with no access to food or fresh water. Meals have been sent into cells to be eaten inches from open toilets. Family contact has been restricted, and incidents of strip searches of family members have been reported.

News reports of a "suspicious object" being thrown in the chapel today before the takeover are unconfirmed, as all communication in and out of the jail has been shut down. A priest who came to Maghaberry following the incident was told to go home and "watch the news".

The Irish Freedom Committee will post updates on this emergency situation as we get further news.

Lock down for 12 hours? Most prisoners round the world would gladly swap their conditions for those of these f**kwits in the north. The green flag should keep them warm at night, and eating food "inches from toilets" is a bit of an exageration. These guys are in prison ffs, that means that they have sacrificed their freedom for their silly beliefs. Someone should tell them that Ireland has two failed states and shooting a few cops and touts ain't gonna change that any time soon. And the priest gets sent home, are we supposed to care about that?.

POWs?
Soldiers who follow the rules of war can be classed as POWs when they are locked up.
This bunch are nothing more than thugs who hide behind a cause to line their pockets and get their jollies. They are not soldiers. Soldiers do not make war on innocent people. Soldiers do not blow up towns in their own country and murder their own people (remember a little place called Omagh?).
These people are CRIMINALS. Thugs who broke the law and got what they deserve. Lock them up, take their priviliges away. They are quite prepared to take away the rights and the lives of others. Let them rot.
