Gospel Nonviolence Reflections-Donnycarney Le Cheile Community Centre

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Monday March 22, 2010 17:11author by Mairtin MacMaolain Report this post to the editors

Living a true Christianity

In light of the scandal of sexual abuse of children and subsequent cover-up that continues daily to haunt the Catholic Church, this reflection looks at what what living out the true message of Christianity looks like, not a Christianity that hangs on to the survival of an institution corrupted by wealth, power and status, temptations which Jesus rejected in the desert but ultimately have gotten the better of men's hearts who pose as pillars of Christian morality. Perhaps the time for talking about a renewal of the Church should stop and some of that renewal starts now...getting back to teaching and doing the basics..taking courage from the early Christians and those who have faithfully and humbly tried in the modern time to live out this new concept of living as taught and lived by Jesus.

Original Christianity, for about 300 years after the life of Christ, forbade the use of violence and enmity. The full embracing of Gospel Nonviolence calls for a radical change in the way we think, talk, behave and feel. To a mind conditioned by a seemingly endless stream of examples in which violence is portrayed as a legitimate means of conflict resolution, the acceptance of nonviolence as truth is a huge challenge. In this series of reflections we will come to know the Jesus of the Gospels in a way that will transform our understanding of how to live in the Kingdom of God moment to moment and follow the new commandment of Jesus to love one another. In a time of crisis for the Church, this understanding of Christianity has the potential to restore and revolutionize the faith of believers and non-believers alike!

It will take place in Le Chéile Community Centre, Donnycarney (Beside Donnycarney Church) Tuesday 23rd March @8pm

Buses: 20B; 27; 27A/B/X; 42; 42A/B; 43; 103; 128.

"Perhaps the time for talking about a renewal of the Church should stop and some of that renewal starts now"

Or Perhaps we as human beings should take this chance to evolve beyond the need for Religion.....
