We are facing a radical agenda set by the progressive wing of the educational establishment, says Dr Stephen Curran. We should build on the past 14 years' foundation, not tear it down.

Dublin: IPSC Protest in Favour of Anti-Veolia Motion in DCC

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Saturday February 27, 2010 19:36author by Kev - IPSC (pers cap) Report this post to the editors

The IPSC has called a protest to support the anti-Veolia motion laid down in Dublin City Council by Cllr. Joan Collins (People Before Profit). The motion is due to be voted on during the council meeting of Monday 1st March.

De-Rail Israeli Apartheid
De-Rail Israeli Apartheid

Please come along and show your support for this motion aimed at stopping DCC from engaging in any further contracts with Veolia, the company that are building an Israeli colonial settler-only light rail system in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Assemble at 6.15pm outside Dublin City Hall on Dame St, Dublin 2

You can also send an email to all councillors on DCC urging them to support this motion.

The full text of the motion and a model letter to councillors can be found at this link: http://cosmos.ucc.ie/cs1064/jabowen/IPSC/ipsc/displayEv...D=796

It's a great motion and I think it deserves full support but I don't think it's due to be debated tomorrow. There are 15 motions on the Council agenda to get through before the Council gets to Joan, including motions on the institutional abuse by the Churches, the raising of a city bond and the 30 kph speed limit in the city centre. A monthly Council meeting that gets through five motions would be considered miraculous. If it's not being debated maybe the protest should still go ahead as a way of lobbying councillors?

Hi Cllr,

Thanks for the info re: the amount of motions etc,

It's certainly unfortunate that the motion may not be debated tonight, but protest will go ahead to, as you say, lobby councillors and raise the issue in general.

Regards,
Kev

Extremely frustrating. Not only did we not get to the Veolia motion, we didn't even get to the debate the first motion on the agenda, let alone agree it. It's amazing how much time 50 people can waste in the room together.

Fair play on the protest Kev. Keep up the pressure.
