Obama: “Preventive Detention”![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In a move that not only mimics the Bush tactics on illegal detention Obama is "crafting language for an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely." The Washington Post observes, "Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war." It is not yet know if Obama’s proposed Executive Order will allow the not only already abducted people in Guantanamo and elsewhere to be held indefinitely or if it is to apply to future kidnapped people in ‘war zones’ or other areas as well such as the US and Europe. This new law will go further than Bush and Cheney did in regard to the creating a new ‘legal framework’ to carry out the illegal detention of persons who are thought may at some point in the future commit a crime. |
