Let's be honest here...

category international | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Monday January 05, 2009 13:57author by Layla Report this post to the editors

It is easy to get bogged down in the details of the Gaza crisis and who said what. The underlying truth that anyone educated about the conflict knows is that the Palestinians are the true victims here and have been for decades. The Israelis know this better than anyone else.

I don't understand why people aren't waking up and seeing what is happening! Hundreds and hundreds of innocent Palestinian civilians are being killed in their own land which has been occupied by the Israelis for decades. No Food, no medicine, no water, no gas, no electricity, no freedom of movement! No sleep at night for over 10 days. Do you think you could sleep while you were being bombed for days on end?

Too many people are brainwashed by the refined public relations that is spat out by the Israelis into Western media and are not seeing what is really happening in Palestine. Palestinians are defending their land and themselves. Palestine has for decades been a prison. I know – I was born there but my family were fortunate enough to get us out of there when I was 12. Hamas did not start this by rocket firing, they have been elected into power to fight for their peoples respect, dignity and homeland. The War against the Palestinians has been ongoing since my father was born in 1948, but only when it takes a military shape do the West hear of it. The Palestinians are suffering and have been well before this current military campaign.

Even if you do not come from the region you have an interest in stopping this injustice. The world is all connected especially in this globalized age. The hate and suffering that is being created with this mass-murder is going to spill over and affect the West also. It is one thing when people die due to a natural disaster or poverty. It is quite another when they die at the indiscriminate hands of murderers. There will be consequences.

Everyone should speak up about this – don’t be shy!
