Defiance all round by S2S as the Irish Naval Service disgrace themselves again Report and photos from this morning’s blockade of the Shell compound in Glengad, Erris, Co. Mayo, and the Shell to Sea Flotilla’s second visit to Shell War-Boat Orla which left Broadhaven Bay this afternoon. Also there is confirmation of the arrival of a second Shell War-Boat, the Aoife. Locals and Solidarity Campers blockaded the shift change at Shell’s pipeline landfall site compound at Glengad about 7am this morning. Protestors assembled before the compound gates at approximately 6:50am. The blockaders were opposed by nearly 40 Gardaí who were in quite confrontational mood, but even so the protest continued for over an hour in spite of the Gardaí being rather rough when pushing back blocking protestors. The protest ended soon after 8am when Gardai forced open a path for the last vehicle to enter the compound. |

I presume this big talk would have dissapeared pretty fast if the Orla had run a vessel under the waves? They did the right thing and withdrew, or did you WANT a martyre?

this kind of action on the sea must be a first .Most people now have lost faith in all the political parties .Look at the Greens,they stood shoulder to shoulder with the locals before the election swearing that things would change if only they were in office .No one in their right mind will EVER vote for the greens again .So whats left for the ordinary people...Anarchy?
Brilliant this is great news, we all knew the irish navy were shrinking violets, this only proves they are. We should get every thing that floats rubber dingys and block the bay. God help the yanks if the Iraqis find out that rubber dinghys can chase away a prtrol boat!!

..and Pat is certainly one of them! Once again the IDM shows up the so-called native media - though the S2S campaign and anyone who's involved in defending Erris and Ireland's natural resources would disagree with the IDM's editorial slant these days, but what the hell, the mainstream media are never going to tell the whole truth about the Great Gas Robbery - unless they're forced to!

It covers the change of Shell War-Boats in Broadhaven Bay yesterday, and includes denial from 'the Naval Service' that S2S/RSC kayakers had seen the Orla off. No nice photo on the article on the website; we got to about 30m of Orla when she ran off - pity!
