Anonymous Anounces "Operation: Cult Fiction"

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Friday August 15, 2008 02:43author by Anonymousauthor email info at anonireland dot org Report this post to the editors

DUBLIN, Ireland — On Saturday, August 16th, the collective known as Anonymous will again stage a protest against the Church of Scientology's corruption, and its abuse of its members and critics. This will be Anonymous' seventh global protest since the inception of its campaign in January. From 11am (local time) onwards, Anonymous will take to the streets in peaceful protest at over 130 Church of Scientology centres around the globe, including the Mission of Dublin Ltd on 62/63 Middle Abbey Street.

One of the primary goals of Anonymous' global protests is to bring to light the Church's fraud and abuses. In recent days, Anonymous has uncovered a scheme involving the use of Dublin and Cork airports by Scientology leaders in order to obtain supplementary visas to the UK under false pretences (a deception now under investigation by the UK Border Agency)

Scams of this nature comprise the very essence of the Church of Scientology. It misrepresents the most fundamental basics of its dogma to the public, and to its members, until absurdly high fees have been forfeited to the Church over years of indoctrination. This effectively prevents any public person from obtaining informed consent regarding participation in activities in aid of Scientology, and the organisation itself.

A common introduction to Scientology is the 'free personality test' the Church offers at its 'Orgs' and 'Missions'. Virtually every taker of this test will be diagnosed to be unhappy, unstable and liable to depression - all findings designed to induce fear and feelings of inadequacy. Once prospective converts have taken the test and been shown their results, "problem" areas are highlighted, which they are then pressured into taking Scientology courses to treat.

Upon completion of these courses, a further set is recommended, again playing on any perceived emotional or psychological weaknesses. This can be very effective in coercing recruits into progressing further into the church, to the very highest levels of Scientology teaching, the so-called "OT levels", which are reported to cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of Euro to complete.

The people who do join Scientology and pay for their services do so in the hopes of gaining increased intelligence and 'improved' personalities. Unfortunately, the Church doesn't deliver. Instead, Scientologists (when they finally reach the higher levels) are sold a space opera theology about clusters of alien spirits infesting their bodies - after having spent tens of thousands on Scientology courses and auditing sessions. It is a "bait-and-switch" scheme.

They promise "Superhuman Powers" but cannot deliver on these either. They do, however, continue to promote, sell and fail to deliver them even today. This lack of delivering what they promise is understandably unsatisfactory to those who trusted the promises and sales pitch of "spiritual technology". Spiritual fiction would be a better classification of Scientology founder L.Ron Hubbard's claims to make "super humans".

This practise of promising that which cannot deliver, whilst asking huge amounts of money for the same, makes Scientology a criminal fraud.

The global protests against the Church of Scientology hope to put an end to its fraud and abuses. To that end, Anonymous is informing the public of the Church's practices, raising awareness about Scientology and its various front groups. This is also putting pressure on its ability to recruit new members to sustain its cash flow.

About Anonymous
Anonymous is a grassroots collective comprised of ordinary people from all walks of life, from former Scientologists and long-time cult activists, to college students and corporate professionals, all united in recognition of the malign nature of the Church of Scientology, the danger it poses to society, and the necessity of action. The Times has said that "Anonymous has made campaigning sexy for the first time since 1968". In recent months, Anonymous protesters have been stalked and, in the US and UK, threatened with legal action in an attempt to dissuade them from protesting, and silence their criticism. Anonymous remain undaunted, and will continue to confront the cult and its numerous front groups wherever they pose a threat.
