Successful Shell To Sea Picket On The Finglas Road (29/03/08)

category dublin | anti-capitalism | news report author Saturday March 29, 2008 14:45author by Nikita - CYM Report this post to the editors

This afternoon, activists gathered at the Shell station on the Finglas road for a picket called by the Connolly Youth Movement. Comrades from many different political backgrounds joined us in our support of the Rossport people and opposition to the dangerous pipeline being built in Mayo without the consent of the local community.

Shell To Sea!

The picket started around 12pm and lasted for an hour and a half until 1.30pm. Around 20 activists attended the action in good spirits and hundreds of leaflets were distributed to the local community who were very supportive of the cause. Buses, taxis and passing cars all tooted their horns in solidarity as well.

During the picket, we managed to block both entrances to the station meaning it was virtually deserted for the duration of the action, much to the annoyance of the Shell manager. As usual the police turned up rather late but in quite large numbers, thankfully however, this time the special branch wern't around to harass the activists.

At the end of the picket, the weather was declining but we all headed off into town anyway to go support the march for a decent health service. The picket will continue again next month on the Finglas Road as we continue to put pressure on Shell to go offshore and respect the rights of the local community.

The Struggle Continues!
