Shell gets go ahead to survey Sruwaddacon Bay

Minister gives go ahead

Shell are about begin offshore work off the Erris coast in the coming weeks, after minister gave consent in early march
bay.jpg

Shell are about begin offshore work off the Erris coast in the coming weeks, this work will comprise of a survey of Sruwaddacon Bay, which is now almost certain to be the final route for the controversial high pressure pipe.
Minister John Gormley gave his permission for "Survey" works to be carried out in Sruwaddacon Bay earlier this month, and a pontoon structure is being delivered to Ballyglass next week which will then be towed to Sruwaddacon Bay to begin the work.
A number of support vessels will also arrive next week, but it is expected that it may be several weeks (maybe months) before the pipe laying ships arrive in the area.
Shell has recruited approx 20 observers, mostly fishermen and RNLI members from the Erris area who will "observe" the work been carried out, so as to ensure it is been done in an environmentally safe manner.
The vessels will be based at Ballyglass, and they will be of major concern to the large fishing fleet which used that port as a base.

Have just watched - and LISTENED - to Edison Gas Explosion video.

It's no bloody wonder that the slobber video posted above this one seems to be no longer available.

Thanks to whoever posted the Edison video.

Minister gormely had nothing to do with this, this is marine ministers field.
If it is below high water mark, gormely cant touch it!

Here's a video, made by a local resident, of the gas pipeline explosion at Durham Woods, Edison New Jersey in 1994. Well worth watching.

I could not credibly initiate such an action. However, if such an action were initiated, I could and would take part in the action as could anyone else in the country.

Sean why dont YOU sue the State in a massive class action and injunct the drilling (and everything else) until the civil suit is taken care of.
or else wake up and smell toe coffee.

author by Seán Ryanpublication date Sat Mar 29, 2008 15:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Why is it that we hear time and time again that our so-called government cannot undo the done deal, that there is no leverage etc. Was drilling in the bay a part of the original deal? I don't think it can have been, since Shell have only now been given permission to drill in the SAC. Methinks the Government can be shown to be in violation of its own contract with ourselves and can be shown to have used a string (more like a rope) of deceit to facilitate the violation.

Why not sue the State in a massive class action and injunct the drilling (and everything else) until the civil suit is taken care of.

Shell has been awarded a foreshore licence for the work by Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Mary Coughlan .
Seemingly she has juridiction for anything below high water mark!
"The spokeswoman said this licence covered the fact the area is an SAC and comes under the EU habitats directive. An environmental management plan would be put in place."

Gormely will be off the hook for this, Shell are cute hoors

I hope that we all come back out of the woodwork this year,
i think its time we prepared for full scale war with shell-
they will not be allowed to lay a pipeline ,
the people of Erris need help, the solidarity camp also needs help.
are you willing to stop them????

author by Concernedpublication date Fri Mar 28, 2008 22:31author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Did Gormley really give permission? It makes no sense since he reprimanded Shell for damaging the SAC in October.

author by Joepublication date Fri Mar 28, 2008 20:07author address author phone Report this post to the editors

SHELL E&P Ireland says it has received State approval to drill boreholes in Sruwaddaccon Bay, a special area of conservation (SAC) in north Mayo, as part of work on the Corrib gas project.
