A true story of Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American, who travelled as a peace activist to the Gaza strip, where she was killed by an Israel Defence Forces Caterpillar D9 bulldozer in March 2003, while attempting to prevent a demolition of a home in a Palestinian residential area of Rafah. Rachel was a gifted person, an idealistic humanitarian; her journals and emails from her time in Palestine have been edited by Katherine Viner and Alan Rickman, who directed the acclaimed play, "My Name is Rachel Corrie", first staged in April 2005 at the Royal Court Theatre, London. It went on to win the Theatregoers' Choice Awards for Best Director and Best New Play, as well as Best Solo Performance. |
