Ógra Shinn Féin

category national | miscellaneous | press release author Thursday February 14, 2008 16:01author by Join Sinn Féin - Ógra Shinn Féin Report this post to the editors

If you Love Ireland - Join Sinn Féin!

One of Ireland’s youngest councillor’s Johnny McGibbon has today signalled the beginning of a major recruitment drive for Sinn Féin.

In keeping with the Valentine’s Day spirit, the 21 year old elected activist is urging a simple message, ‘If you love Ireland, Join Sinn Féin.’

His words came as Ógra Shinn Féin activists distributed thousands of ‘I ♥ Ireland’ stickers across Ireland today.

The recruitment drive will also include the distribution of tens of thousands of leaflets, special public talks aimed at gaining new members and the launch of a new recruitment video.

Speaking on the major recruitment drive, Cllr McGibbon said,

“Sinn Féin is a party committed to Irish unity and equality; we are committed to representing the most marginalised and empowering communities on a needs basis. We are also internationalists and have opposed the brutal occupation of Iraq and we are the only main political party who will be rejecting the upcoming Lisbon Treaty.”

“In the year ahead Sinn Féin will be aiming to at least double our activist base. We have launched a simple initiative today around Valentine’s day, urging people, if you love Ireland, Join Sinn Féin.”

“We have also produced a new ‘Join Sinn Féin’ broadcast, which has been uploaded to YouTube and Bebo, reaching out to the thousands of online users. The message in all of this is, one determined person can make a significant difference, and a group of determined people can change the course of history. We are asking people to make a difference – Join Sinn Féin!”

Personally, I hope new members do not join Sinn Fein. I think Sinn Fein's time is over, and it will slowly but surely be sucked into the establishment and the gombeen politics that go with it.

I once liked sinn fein to extents not so long ago, and i thought they had something to offer. But dropping their policies chasing Fianna Fail into government sealed it for me. They have no foundations. They switch and sway whatever way they can to get power.

If your a socialist, leftist or republican - go some place else. There's plenty of other organisations out there with some principles, and not just talk when it suites.

There's more to politics than cheap sticker promotions. Maybe thats all SF are left with these days.

Exactly theres actual socialist parties out there, anarchists, various left groupings and for republicans you've got rsf. I can't see where psf niche is other than a club for people in denial.

What have Sinn Feign achieved since becoming part of Paisley's Government? Absolutely Nothing.

The DUP have proven time and again that they are Masters in their own House. They have pushed the Irish Language below Ulster Scots, a dialect.

What happened to the Devolution of Policing, as promised by Sinn Feign? The DUP have put a stop to that.

We'll not mention the Class room assistants because that is a sign of things to come.

We'll not mention the silence surrounding the MI5 Headquarters and water charges.....

Back to the subject of really who is boss, Sinn Fein are only in Government as long as the DUP allows it and they are willing to put up with it because they too enjoy the perks of power.

However as the recent By-election result might prove in the long run, the Unionist Electorate might be growing tired of Old Ian and Company because they have Republicans about the place.

If that happens then Old Ian will decide that the days of the Chuckle Brothers are over and it's back to finding an excuse, like poor Paul Quinn to kick them out of Government.
All Martin's Pandering will have been for nothing.

SF are working to achieving what was laid out in the 1916 Proclamation, and are based in working class communities across Ireland.

They are involved in all aspects of struggle, both locally, nationally and internationally.

Sf will lead Ireland in struggle. Join SF Anois!

This is the most ridiculous campaign I've seen in a long long while....

So much so I'm hitting my head off of the keyboard to try and knock it out of my head....

If you loved Ireland so much why were you blowing bits of it up for the last 40 odd years?

Thunk...

""SF are working to achieving what was laid out in the 1916 Proclamation, and are based in working class communities across Ireland.

I wont argue with you here, I think SF are well involved on a local level helping communities. And they might well be seeking what was laid out in 1916, be it, in a new way thats not very popular amongst other republican strands.

But what I really hate, is a party that doesnt have principles. A party that dosnt have any foundations and drifts about from one position to the next seeking self gain and power.

At least with more defined parties, you know where they stand. They have a structured set of beliefs and principles.

SF has not. Its unpredictable and self serving, and im sorry to say that mind you, as I think its an excellent party otherwise in terms of activism and 'getting things done' - and also for maintaining a wide variety of leftists within its ranks, as opposed to sectarianism and dogmatism.

The provo vote dropped 46% in Dublins working cloass areas. Thats nearly half of what you had, if the rprovos are onvolved with teh working class they aren't approving.

"Ireland, as distinct from her people, means nothing to me; and the man who is bubbling over with love and enthusiasm for 'Ireland', and can yet pass unmoved through our streets and witness all the wrong and the suffering, the shame and the degradation wrought upon the people of Ireland, yea, wrought by Irishmen upon Irish men and women, without burning to end it, is, in my opinion, a fraud and a liar in his heart, no matter how much he loves that combination of chemical elements he is pleased to call Ireland."
