Indymedia Upgraded to Allow Youtube Videos

Stories and comments can now include Youtube Video The Oscailt software that is used to power the Indymedia Ireland web-site has now been upgraded to allow YouTube video to be embedded in both stories and comments. The embedded Youtube video above is an example of how it will look. Users will now be able to post one YouTube video link per story or comment. The way it works is that a new field called YouTube Id now appears in the Publish Page under the Related Link field. Normally to post or embed a YouTube video on a web-site, you copy the HTML snippet provided by YouTube. For publishing on indymedia.ie, all you need to do is to provide the YouTube ID: The Oscailt software automatically generates the necessary HTML tags to embed the video at the top of the story or comment. During publishing, the preview functionality should display your video as an embedded object at the top of the page. You may have to wait a few seconds for the image to appear as the video takes time to download from the YouTube web-site. |

Nice choice of demo videos too.
How about posting a video of the press conference held at Bellanaboy in October 2006 - the one where the ex army officer described how he had been offered a bribe by Shell? (Joe Higgins, Cowley and others also spoke at it). There were some powerful speeches made by local people that day.
Youtube is an American corporation.
Indymedia should not use its software until the US military withdraws from Iraq
For anyone who's still innocent in the ways of the gardai, Shell and the government. Great stuff and immence credit to everyone involved in its production.
This crowd are complicit in censorship in China, are a huge American multinational spying on people, and have a privacy policy that sucks. Disable this feature immediately.

nice work imc-ie, any plans for the youtube links images to be included in the photo gallery? if not a separate you tube and related file gallery?
''YouTube has suspended the account of Egyptian blogger Wael Abbas, who has been posting videos of cases of torture in his country. One of the videos he posted, of a Cairo man being beating and sexually assaulting, was credited with helping bring pressure on Egyptian authorities. That pressure led to three-year jail sentences for two of the policeman involved in the assault. Abbas has called the suspension of his YouTube account "by far the biggest blow to the anti-torture movement in Egypt", according to Amira Al Hussaini on Global Voices.''

The Indymedia site which uses the Oscailt software has now been upgraded to allow additional embedded video types to YouTube.
You can now embed videos for these types:
Youtube Video, Google video, Clipfish, Sevenload, MyVideo, Break, Metacafe, Vimeo, Videotube, Blip.tv, Revver, UnCut, LiveLeak, Yahoo! Video, MyspaceTV, Veoh, Vsocial, Last.fm, Glumbert, Wandeo, Tu.tv, Cellfish.com and Grouper
Some of these types may prove to be rubbish and may be removed, whereas others migbe be added.
This update has resulted in a small change to the publish form. It will now display a drop-list of the above video types and when you select one, a video id textbox appears where you should enter the video id. This form of the id may vary from video type. When you do the publish preview it should display. If it does not you may have entered the video id incorrectly or selected the wrong type.
Regrettably we are unable to integrate the Street Films embedded video due to the way the URL is specific for each video. The long term objective however is to be able to support freeware formats and to encourage people to move away from corporate owned formats and corporate hosting
The above embedded video (Justice for 9/11) is an example of the support for the new range of embedded video types by the Oscailt software.
The GoogleVideo site is actually not as clear as the YouTube site in making clear what the Id to use is. You can usually find it by following the URL and then looking for a id field.
In this particular case the URL is:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-649993991751648213
And as can be see the id is in the field docid and the id itself is: -649993991751648213. For Google Video, take note of the minus in the Id field as it is valid. This is actually one of the few embedded video types that can use a minus but it does not mean that all GoogleVideo videos do have a minus in the Id.
they provide flash versions of videos they host
