Concerned about Maternity Provision in your area?

category national | consumer issues | press release author Monday July 23, 2007 17:59author by Jene Kelly - AIMS Ireland (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services - Ireland)author email membership at aimsireland dot com Report this post to the editors

Maternity Reform Group seeks volunteers and new members

Concerned about the current situation in Ireland’s maternity service? Over-crowded and under-staffed hospitals….poor facilities….lack of mother-friendly birth choices…. long wait times…. Poor post natal support… high rates of induction, intervention and c-section…. difficulty booking first choice care preference.... conveyer belt maternity care…etc… AIMS Ireland seeks new members and volunteers.

Over-crowded, understaffed hospitals coupled with the use of outdated policies and restrictions are adversely affecting thousands of women every year. Having a baby should be a wonderful experience for the woman and her family, but unfortunately, in Ireland today, this is not always the case. Irish women are becoming increasingly concerned about the service they receive during and after pregnancy.

AIMS Ireland (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services), is a newly formed voluntary consumer led pressure group formed to promote normal birth and women-centred care Nationwide. AIMS Ireland is affiliated to AIMS UK, which has lobbied for improvements in maternity services in the UK for over 40 years. As a non-profit organisation, members play a huge role in the success of AIMS Ireland. Members of AIMS
Ireland is represented by a variety of backgrounds and situations. Members include mothers, fathers, and representatives from a variety of women’s support groups/birth related fields including midwives, Doulas, and other health care professionals. Numerous regions in Ireland are represented by AIMS Ireland members, however, not all areas are covered adequately and we wish to represent all areas of the country equally.

One of AIMS Ireland’s goals is to truly become a Nation-wide organization. Our desire is for AIMS Ireland to benefit women in all areas of Ireland. We believe that in order to focus on each regional area of Ireland we must have local representatives who can update us on the issues specific to a region or specific hospital. AIMS Ireland has decided to seek volunteers to be Community Support Representatives.

Community Support Representatives will be asked to assist in communications between AIMS Ireland and women in their area – to inform women of our current campaigns, surveys, and of the services we offer.

If you are interested in becoming a member of AIMS Ireland or in volunteering to be a Community Support Representative or if you would like to nominate a member of AIMS Ireland to be a Community Support Representative please contact AIMS Ireland at: membership@aimsireland.com
