From Dr Muireann Ni Bhrolchain, Friday 18th May

''Hi all,
To keep you updated - this morning and throughout the day the Vigil and some Campaign members stopped construction machinery from entering the site at Roestown. This was the first real attempt at construction and it was stopped. They simply sat in front of the machines. The Gardaí were called but they judged that no law was broken and that they had a right to stay. Which they did - all day. But this will continue all week and they need to stopped until the election is over. The media was alerted and some responded. Hopefully there will be photographs in one or two tomorrow. I would like to express my personal thanks and admiration for the actions taken today.

On another note, the leafleting is going very well but we could do with more people involved. Thank you to those from previous groups and campaigns who are helping. Your local knowledge is invaluable. I'm sure that people will be pleased to hear that the response in general is incredibly positive and the public believes that the road should now be re-routed as a result of the discovery of the henge. There has been quite a lot of media coverage again over the last few weeks as is clear from all the posts here".
You can support us by attending:

'CELTIC SPIRIT: STAND UP TO CELTIC TIGER':

A fundraising gig for the Campaign to Save Tara will take place on the 23rd of May at 9PM in An Púcán by Eyre Sq. Galway.
Some of the artists taking part: Nicola Williams,Little John Nee, Gypsy
jazz band, Samba Band,Poetry, Storytelling and More!!!

Fancy Dress- Celtic theme!

The Campaign to Save Tara is an umbrella group made of groups and concerned individuals favouring the re-routing of the M3 Motorway through the heart and soul of Ireland and encouraging the adoption of an integrated transport system for Co. Meath.

At the moment and despite the opposing views of two thirds of the population, despite the views of 350 academics and despite the fact that ancient site after ancient site have been uncovered on the route, the government's obstinacy insists on continuing with this disparaging and disrespectful project.

We call on the Spirit of the Celtic People (by birth or by adoption) to stand up to the ravaging and compulsive hunger of the Celtic Tiger, and to support Tara as a symbol of open space, dignity and integrity.

10 Euro's admission
8 Euro's Concession

Or

By helping us with leafleting in these last critical days

Or

By helping stop any attempts at construction in the valley.

Hello Muireann and CST,
glad to hear you people are keeping up the fight for the preservation of our archaeological heritage in the Gabhra Valley.
But I am a bit confused about the role the Vigil is playing in all this. It was my understanding that the Vigil was supposed to be independent from all groups fighting for Tara, and that they would not get involved in any (political) activities involving direct action. Only last Wednesday TaraWatch, as requested by one Vigil member, issued a public call for help on behalf of the Solidarity Vigil on the Hill of Tara. But shortly afterwards the vigil keepers called off their planned action because they couldn't be seen as being linked to a campaign group (TaraWatch).. But yet, over the last 48 hours reports have been coming in over the media and the CST 's public E-group, linking the Solidarity Vigil to direct action in Roestown and to Campaign to save Tara (CST), a small Labour Party-orientated group trying to influence the outcome of the upcoming general election.

Could somebody from CST or the Vigil please clear up this confusion. I am definitely interested in participating in non-violend direct action, and have done so in the past. But since I am a member of TaraWatch I feel my help and participation in CST/Vigil events isn't welcome.

But if you can't afford to pay 10 bucks to go to a CST-organized fancy dress party, then come to Trinity College Dublin (Swift Theatre) on Monday, May 21st, at 11 am for an event hosted by the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, TCD, about the Hill of Tara's historical and cultural importance .
Speakers include Dr Sean Duffy -FTCD, Department of Medieval History, Dr Gerald Morgan - FTCD, Department of English, and Mr. Vincent Salafia, JD - Department of Law, TCD.

Admission is free of charge.

It is unfortunate, that no response to Micheals question is forthcoming.

The silence is deafening.

Come on CST and Canney, why cant you be honest here?
