Save Navan Hospital - Public Rally

category meath | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Thursday November 30, 2006 22:26author by Sinead Report this post to the editors

A public rally will be held on Saturday 2nd December 2006 in support of the Navan Hospital Campaign.

Location - Navan Hospital

Time - 2.30pm - 3.30pm

People power needed to push Government on Navan Hospital

Demand your rights - a proper health service for all - Cearta Sláinte do chách.

People power is needed now more than ever to show the government that the people of Meath are furious about the continuing loss of services at Navan Hospital Despite the fact that the hospital is servicing a population of 160,000 people the last number of years has seen our hospital loose many important services. Paediatric services have been lost. We have seen orthopaedic services suspended for months on end. The HSE cut the budget of the hospital by over €1,000,000 in 2006.

Recently we have seen the HSE outsource all blood testing from the hospital to a private company at a cost to the tax payer of €18,000 each week. 7 interns have been removed from the hospital in the last 2 years and the HSE plan to remove 5 of the remaining 10.

In November this year the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland announced that it would withdraw training recognition from Navan Hospital from January 2007. This will lead to a reduction of services as junior doctors look elsewhere for training. The number of hospital beds has been reduced to 196 and the A&E is still operating out of a prefab.

We are calling for:-
* A moratorium on further cuts at Our Lady's Hospital Navan
* The building of a proper A&E facility at Navan Hospital
Immediate measures to ensure Navan Hospital Survery Services are not shut down
* The return of paediatric services for children under 12 to Navan Hospital

The Health Services Action Group is made up of a number of Hospital Action Groups from around the country with the aim of changing the current Government policy in relation to centralisation of all acute services in each region and the reduction in the number of A & Es available to the people, especially in rural areas. We are interested in hearing from other Hospital groups and can discuss common problems. Centralisation and Privatisation must be curtailed and revisited for the sake of patient care and economics.
