SWP to launch "Climate Change" front?

category international | environment | opinion/analysis author Friday September 01, 2006 18:24author by watchman Report this post to the editors

Building on the success of grassroots environmentalism

Members of the British SWP have surprisingly come out in support of yesterdays direct action to shut down the "Drax" coal power station in England. The action was the culmination of a week of environmental workshops held on a squatted common under heavy police surveillance with around 600 people attending. The SWP of course had nothing to do with the camp or the action but it seems they may be looking to hijack the growing libertarian-environmental movement in the UK. The support for this action and the raytheon action show how the SWP, who are currently desperate for membership after seriously discrediting themselves several times over the past few years with GR, IAWM and Mayday04, are contradicting their long running opposition to direct action.
Direct Action Against Drax
Direct Action Against Drax

"I think this demonstration at Drax is incredibly significant and marks the beginning of a new mass movement in the UK. Coming on the heels of Campaign against Climate Change's 10,000 strong Climate March in London last December (part of a global day of demonstrations), and many other political developments such as the formation of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition (which while have grave reservations about this organisation is still a step forward) it shows the beginning of a campaign that could and needs to be bigger than CND in the 80s or the anti-war movement of the last 5 years."
Quote from SWP member on public forum.

As ever their answer is to hijack the existing movement, run it "their way" (into the ground) and build a pluralistic mass front for their failing organisation.

What a brilliant and original piece of opinion/analysis, written with striking originality of expression and style, and with such good faith too!

As this watchful author shows, it just wouldn't do to be rehashing the same tired old anti-swp bullshit just to give a waiting queue of masked members of rival organisations the opportunity to take part in their favourite sport of sniping at the SWP.

Shameful that Eamonn McCann et al in Derry have put themselves at risk of years behind bars just to gain credibilty for their party. Everyone knows McCann and his gang of anarchist-sacrificing lenin-worshippers couldn't give the slightest hoot about dead people in far away countries or the self destruction of planet earth etc. Sure, they'd eat their own children if they thought it'd gain them a few members!

LIke watchman I'm damn sure if we're going to get anything done about climate change we're going to be very careful about who we allow into the movement. Us real genuine truth telling altruistic types are going to make sure we run it properly from the very beginning so NO SWP!!!! I'll repeat that a few times just in case people didn't get it. NO SWP!!! NO SWP!!! NO SWP!!! NO SWP!!! Get it?

But the worst thing about it is, the SWP seem to carry on regardless, spreading their soul murdering socialist propaganda and brainwashing more and more of the unwitting public- those who just haven't seen the sense of the anonymista case- and are obviously completely impervious to their shameful iniquity.

Sadly I don't think anyone in the SWP or those they have drugged and battered into working with them give a flying monkeys what's said about them here.

Still, It's great to get a chance to stick the knife in and twist it, isn't it?

Nobody but the swp defends the swp, although I heard they had issued an edict against using indymedia. Speaking of fronts, when is richard going to allow anyone else a turn as chairman of the IAWM?

funny about that 'edict' you heard about, since no-one in the swp seems to have heard it. what kind of people do you have to hang around with to hear such half-cocked nonsense anyway?

"Nobody but the swp defends the swp"
Wrong - I do, and am not and have never been a member of the SWP. Funnily enough, the puerile attacks on them have prompted me to read more of their stuff, and they strike me as level-headed, flexible and creative, and eager to build the left.
Keep it up - you may even persuade me to join them (though for personal reasons I would be no asset

The SWP have no shame. They use the same mobile number as the contact for PBPA, SWP, IAWM, GR, ABEIP, Anti Incinerator Campaign. All they are interested in is setting up fronts. That and getting RBB elected (not that they ever will).
