Which team will they be supporting? Will there be any PSNI members playing?
"Which team will they be supporting? Will there be any PSNI members playing?"
Some State colleagues of the RUC/PSNI will no doubt , as usual , 'play' with the RSF organisers of this rally .
And , also as usual , they will 'lose' and the 'match' will finish when it is supposed to .
Sharon .
I attended this Demo today. It Was'nt really well attented and the averae age of the crowd was quite old. The speeches aswell seemed very outdated. Though never a supporter of RSF I have always been a fan of how they stuck to there principles through all the years and never "sold out ". And in my opinion I would regard them as true Republicans in the Padraig Pearse sense if you know what I'm getting at..
Back to the speeches,Apart from the odd mention of the English occupation every second word from the speakers seemed to be Sinn Fein or about Gerry or Martin. It seems that Sinn Fein have become a bigger enemy for true hardline Republicans like RSF than the British Army.In my opinion you would be better off forgetting about Gerry and his pals and get on with your own work ie: building up a younger supporter base advancing your federal Ireland policy etc and let Sinn Fein go there own way people willl eventually see them for what they are..
One final moan choosing to hold the speeches outside the GPO may seem an obvious move but it was almost impossable to hear the speeches due to the traffic and the sound of drums from a side street if you were standing at the back(I can see this being used against me) the acoustics were crap to be honest. But the piper was good.
Hi KBranno !
I was there today , too - and I thought it was quite well attended : so much so that , at one stage , two uniformed Gardai had to try and 'tighten-up' the crowd so as to allow shoppers pass without having to walk on the street .
There were crowds of youths listening to the speeches , coming and going as youths will but , all-in-all , I believe , it was a well-mixed crowd , age wise .
The first speaker , John Horan , spoke for approximately twenty minutes and never once mentioned Provisional Sinn Fein , Mr Adams , Mr McGuinness or any other member of that party . Indeed , he never referred to the Provisionals at all during his contribution !
Other speakers did so , that is true . But I think the 'picture' they were laying-out necessitated mention of the Provisionals , just the same as it required them to refer to Fianna Fail , the SDLP , the GAA etc .
The amplification system did indeed lose some of its output , but it was trying to cover a large area . And the traffic noise did not help !
The piper was good , yes - well presented , and a master of his craft !
Sharon .
