Statement of Principle
The strength and survival of free society and the advance of human knowledge depend on the free exchange of ideas. All ideas are capable of giving offence, and some of the most powerful ideas in human history, such as those of Galileo and Darwin, have given profound religious offence in their time. The free exchange of ideas depends on freedom of expression and this includes the right to criticise and mock. We assert and uphold the right of freedom of expression and call on our elected representatives to do the same. We abhor the fact that people throughout the world live under mortal threat simply for expressing ideas and we call on our elected representatives to protect them from attack and not to give comfort to the forces of intolerance that besiege them.

why should i believe what your pet site says? if the BNP had attended do not think that RESPECT and the swp and all the islamofascists would be crowing to the media about it? no, one crank islamofascist site proves nothing.

as i said the Trafalgar SQ wardens gave the 600 figure. you are the one who has been economical with the truth: the rally you refferred to was only a quarter of the size you claimed.

it still brings me back to the main point: why are you after me? i am opposed to the war. i was out on the march in dublin on 18 march. ipost anti war material here. i was the first to post a story about the israeli invasion of jerhico and their kidnap of comrade sa,adat and the other prisoners.

but you, you never post on any anti-war threads, you never start any, you never comment against zionism. what motivates you?

You claim that not 300 but the awe-inspiring total of 600 people attended the so-called free speech rally in London. Wow, fucking hell. 600 eh. That will shake the world
Nonetheleess here is what the BBC says the ORGANISERS claim
"Mr Risdon said 600 people had taken part, while police said 250 people were at the rally at its peak".
Well, the cops would definitely want to minimise the size of an ant-muslim rally wouldn't they? Wouldn't they. Of course you rely on what Tatchell and his mates claim.
The BBC goes on to say
"A separate counter-protest took place in Birmingham on Saturday morning...[in which]. 300 protesters joined a two-hour rally in the city's Victoria Square." Birmingham is somewhat samller than London, if I remember rightly
s for the size of the anti-cartoons rally, the BBC says:
"About 5,000 UK mainstream Muslims joined a protest in London's Trafalgar Square against controversial cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad."
Not 20,000, but we all know, don't we, that the BBC routinely lies about the size of anti-establishment rallies. Don't we?
You accuse me of lies. Let others judge who has the evidence to back up their claims.
And since you deny BNP, NF, etc. presence at the "free speech" rally, check out http://www.islamophobia-watch.com/islamophobia-watch/20....html

"You claim there were no greater numbers at the London demos against the cartoons and Islamophobia! There were about 20,000 at that rally"

thats a lie as you well know. but i'll leave you to your dreams.

no there was no BNP along but a few islamofascists did turn up. as for the numbers the Trafalagar Square Wardens estimated the numbers at 600. Hers what the organisers say:

"The rally was a success with 600 people attending. These included Muslims, Christians and atheists, Britons, Americans, Danes, Iraqis and Iranians, socialists, liberals conservatives and libertarians. The one thing which united them was support for the principle of Free Speech. The extremists kept away: No BNP and just a few Islamofascists."

And

"It was a victory for tolerance, reason and freedom. If you want to know how badly this hurts the extremists, read some of the comments on this blog. This was just the beginning, but it was a very good beginning. "

i dont like the freedom association (sic) either, but thats a single issue campaign for you. in the last amemdment campaign, trotskyists and anarchists in the AFC didnt refuse the support of members of FF, FG, & the PDs (one PD member made a very signicant financial donation to the campaign).

Well, Pat C., you really are a humourless gnome.
I knew the attendance was 300, as I read it on the BBC website.
Saying "Dozens were there" is humour. But, tell me, when does it stop being legitimate to describe a number as "dozens".
By the way, how many of those attending were BNP, NF, UKIP, Grunwick anti-asian, anti-union types?
You claim there were no greater numbers at the London demos against the cartoons and Islamophobia! There were about 20,000 at that rally. The one which took place about a week before, and was only attended by a few hunder, was neither called nor supported by the main left-wing and Muslim organisations

What ever about the others, the Freedom Association are a dispicable bunch. They have fuck-all interest in the rights of muslims and asians in Britain. Witness their behaviour turning the Grunwick Strike when McWhirter and friends grabbed loads of union "blacked" photomailers in a raid one night and at their own expense, and in their own homes, mailed them out....

I'm sure Chekov or anyone older than 35 who watched BBC news on a TV as a kid can fill you in:

http://www.movinghere.org.uk/galleries/histories/asian/...k.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grunwick_Dispute

There was a brilliant BBC documentary about this screened a few weeks ago,

Of course, then we have our own little Purple Penis of Freedom operation here in Ireland - the "Freedom Institute" (laughs)...

www.freedominst.org

Unfortunately, this Freedom of Expression issue allows whack jobs to jump on the band wagon. What to do with them is another question...

author by pat cpublication date Sun Mar 26, 2006 16:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

where do you get your fugures from? heres a genuine report on the rally:

"Muslims, Christians and atheists, Britons, Americans, Danes, Iraqis and Iranians, socialists, liberals conservatives and libertarians all mixed, chatted, listened, applauded and supported the basic principle of freedom of expression. It was an extraordinary occasion. Estimates of numbers vary, but I'm told the square wardens put the figure at 600. The BBC estimates it at half this figure. More than this can be counted in partial photos of the crowd, but even this lower number would be almost double the next highest turnout at rallies held in the wake of the cartoons saga."

'It should be expected, really, as should the image in the israeli press of Arabs in Kayeffas with bomb-belts to their waist.'

Unfortunately thats an accurate portrayal of how Jews often come into contact with Arabs. However the portrayal of Jews as hook nosed moneylenders etc are caricitures. This is no defemnce of Israel, they are a junior partner in Imperialism and are Colonists. But do not equate Zionism with Jewry..

re: "Jews" in the Arab press. I'm uessing you are referring to the cartoons publishing caricatures of israelis over-playing their stereotypical Jewish features? Israeli media does the same about arabs.. the arabs and Israelis have been in conflict for Decades, the predominant religion in Israel is Judaism, hence the publication of the "Jews" in cartoons. It should be expected, really, as should the image in the israeli press of Arabs in Kayeffas with bomb-belts to their waist.

Do you reckon the British Humanist Association , Free Muslims Coalition, Gay & Lesbian Humanist Association, New Humanist, Nigerian Humanist Movement, National Secular Society all fancy the UKUP?

In any case those who support censorship like the SWP and "RESPECT" (sic) are happy to share plarforms with Imams who spread Anti-Semitic bile every day of the week. Ever see the cartoons of Jews in the islamic press?
